Oh Chien 蚵煎 at Meldrum Walk Johor Bahru
Oh Chien 蚵煎 or oyster omelette is popular food in Malaysia and a few countries in Asia like Singapore and Taiwan. There are a few versions (cooking style) of Oh Chien 蚵煎 and they are tasty in their own way.
In Johor Bahru, there is a walkway full with street food. It is called Meldrum Walk i Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Jalan Chan Siu Chin and near to City Square Mall. You can find Malay and Chinese local street food and you will be spoilt by choices.
While waiting, I took some pictures of some of their key ingredients, eggs and fresh oysters. They keep their oysters cool in a chilled container and the sizes of their oysters are relatively large.
They will cook the omelette first and then only they add the oyster and spring onions and chilli paste (optional). Hence, by cooking the oyster last, they won’t over cook the fresh oysters and the oysters remain juicy.
Their version of Oh Chien 蚵煎 is not that starchy (unlike Kuala Lumpur’s Oh Chien 蚵煎) and the omelette is cooked to perfection. I love how the omelette is cooked to golden brown colour. You get to taste the soft texture of the omelette and the oyster and crispy texture of starch. Thus, you compliment it with the chilli sauce and you will not regret ordering a second plate. Addictive as it is, this will be my favourite stall for Oh Chien 蚵煎 whenever I visit Johor Bahru.

Aw, I love oyster omelette too & I like mine real crispy! I always ask for less starch else it’ll be very gluey. ^_^
Can anyone recommend a good stall in KL?
