Malaysian Man Arrested and Charged in Perth Australia Over Child Porn
Last Friday, a 36 year old Malaysian has been arrested and detained after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers allegedly child exploitation material (child porn) on his mobile phone at Perth International Airport Australia according to the report on ABF website. You can read it here. This is the fourth time we blogged about this issue on our blog.
Last year, we wrote two stories about this issue as two Malaysians were deported due to pornography in their mobile phone. We also wrote a story on Australia Laws on Tourists Phone and Laptop Content.
Do you know that the maximum penalty for the importation of child exploitation material is 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to A$525,000? It is not just deportation but you can get jailed up 10 years and also a fine up to A$525,000 (RM 1.5 million).
According to ABF website, the ABF officers stopped the man for a baggage examination after he arrived on a flight from Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Friday, 15 March, 2019).
During the examination of his mobile phone officers allegedly found abhorrent material, including a video depicting the sexual abuse of a child.
Officers seized the phone and cancelled his visitor’s visa.
The man has been charged with:
◦One count of Importation of a Prohibited Import being Tier 2 goods under s.233BAB(5) of the Customs Act 1901.
He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrate’s Court today (Saturday, 16 March, 2019).
Acting ABF Regional Commander for Western Australia, Emma Newman, said the ABF was committed to doing all it could to prevent the importation of abhorrent material into Australia.
“Visitors should be aware that possession of child exploitation material is viewed very seriously under Australian law,” Acting Commander Newman said.
“The maximum penalty for the importation of child exploitation material is 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $525,000.
“Tackling child exploitation is an operational priority for the ABF as part of its role protecting the border from individuals who may pose a threat to the community.”
Child porn is wrong by all means and it should not be in your mobile phone, your laptop or your hard drives. This is the fourth time we going to say this, please check all your content on your mobile phone or laptop for porn or child porn and please delete it before you bring it over to Australia.
If this continues, there will be more tendency to check Malaysians at all International Airports in Australia and it could be stricter for Malaysians to obtain Tourist VISA too. Share this story among your friends and families, don’t let them making this mistake while traveling to Australia.
