Restoran New Lai Fatt Seafood Batu 9 Cheras Review
Restoran New Lai Fatt Seafood Batu 9 Cheras Review
The last time we blogged about this restaurant, it was in 2008 and that is eleven years ago. It was called New Loi Fatt before renamed to New Lai Fatt. The restaurant next door is their competitor or rival but from the same family. We are not sure when was the time the family started to have a big fight and then split to two restaurants (next to each other). This is located in Batu 9 Cheras.
We went to both restaurants but we preferred the Restoran New Lai Fatt. The issue is getting your way here as it is located hidden off the main road and getting a parking space. Make sure you don’t enter the wrong restaurant too.
We started off our dinner with the Sweet and Sour Pork. If you read our recent food reviews, there is always a sweet and sour pork dish and that is for our boys. Kids love sweet and sour pork and it goes well with rice. When there is Sweet and Sour Pork dish means we are eating with our two boys.
Stir Fried Green Dragon with fermented beancurd (fuyue) is next. For those who never tasted green dragon vegetables (direct translation from Chinese), the texture and taste of this is really good. You get most of the taste of the vegetables with hints of the taste of the fermented beancurd.
Steamed Tofu (beancurd) with soy sauce. This is another dish for the kids and they won’t be disappointed by the smooth texture of the tofu and the taste of the soy sauce.
Steamed Prawns with Eggs. The first time we dined here 11 years ago, we ordered the ‘big head prawns’ as recommended but this time we changed it to the normal prawns. To be honest, it is advisable to order the ‘big head prawns’ as it comes with the prawn roes and it adds more flavours to this dish. Otherwise, this is just another steamed prawns with eggs.
Stir Fried Prawns with Special Sauce. We always love this style of cooking for prawns. The prawns are deep fried to crispiness before it is stirred fried with special sauce which is sweet and savoury. We love the freshness of the prawns and the texture and the sauce is flavourful and delicious.
Lastly, we have the Tong Por Pork with Mantao. For this dish, you need a fatty pork with the skin and the paste must be thick and flavourful. The mantao (Chinese bun) can be steamed or deep fried but the texture must be soft and it complement with the meat and sauce very well. We have no complains on the tong por pork but the texture of the mantao is slight rough. This is a very enjoyable dish in our opinion.
Our second visit to this restaurant and the food is still good and the food prices are still reasonable. If we follow their advise to use the big head prawn for the steamed egg, it will be better.
