Is Japan Safe to Travel Now
Happy New Year everyone. 2023 is a rollercoaster year for me and thank god we survived the year and time to open a new chapter for 2024. Let’s talk about Japan. Sadly, Japan was rocked by a powerful earthquake during New Year day and some people has been asking whether is Japan safe to travel now.
First of all, I am not expert in earthquake but here is something you should know about this earthquake. Please look at the map I have created above.
The 7.6 magnitude earthquake happened near Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula around 4.10 pm (local time) with several strong aftershocks. Even my friends in Tokyo can feel the aftershocks and of course there are photos that theme park is suspended due to that.
Ishikawa is located on the north western coast and most popular tourist cities including Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya is located on the Southern coast which is a different area.
Hokkaido of course is located on the north side while Fukuoka is on the southern side.
Most tourist cities are not affected by this earthquake and is Japan safe to travel now?
There are always risks in traveling which include flight risk, transportation risk, health risk as well as natural disaster risk depending your destination. In Europe, there is always risk of getting pick pocketed or transportation strike / protest.
No one can tell you whether Is Japan Safe to Travel Now as no one can predicts natural disaster. There could be more aftershocks / earthquakes or there could not be more.
However I do know that there is flood in various parts in Malaysia right now.
If you have purchased your ticket to Japan for this few months, weigh your risk. If I have purchased my tickets, I will go based on my own reasons.
Make sure you purchased your travel insurance, get your WIFI / Sim Card and make sure your family and friends know where traveling plans in Japan if you are worried. Travel insurance is a must wherever you travel even to Singapore.
Is Japan Safe to Travel Now? The answer for me is YES with my own reasons and risk calculations. Thank for reading everyone and happy traveling!
