A Guide to Teddy’s Lookout
A Guide to Teddy’s Lookout
It has been a while since I blogged about Melbourne Australia. This is part of my trip to Melbourne. Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Lorne, Victoria, Teddy’s Lookout offers a captivating glimpse into the dramatic beauty of the Great Ocean Road. This scenic viewpoint, perched atop a cliff overlooking the Saint George River, is a must-visit for any traveler seeking panoramic vistas, a dose of fresh air and lots of photos or videos for your social media!
A Unique Perspective
Unlike many lookouts along the Great Ocean Road that focus on the rugged coastline, Teddy’s Lookout presents a unique perspective. The viewing platform provides stunning views of the Saint George River as it meanders towards the Bass Strait, its mouth framed by lush greenery and golden sands. On a clear day, you can even spot the iconic Split Point Lighthouse in the distance. Even you can’t see it, the current view is already mesmerising.
A Short Walk with Big Rewards
Reaching Teddy’s Lookout is a breeze. A short, paved path winds its way up from the car park, offering glimpses of the scenic surrounds along the way. The walk is suitable for most fitness levels and takes approximately five minutes to complete. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views that stretch across the coastline and inland towards the Otway Ranges. It is just a short walk from the nearby parking lot and it won’t break a sweat. It is recommended to visit Teddy’s Lookout when you self drive at Melbourne or Great Ocean Road.
Explore Further
For the more adventurous, a lower lookout platform awaits. Take the steps down and be greeted by a different perspective, showcasing the river’s power and the ancient rock formations that line its banks. Keep an eye out for the fascinating 100-million-year-old concretions embedded in the rocks – a testament to the region’s rich geological history. However, given the time limit I had, I didn’t manage to explore further but do always plan ahead if you love hiking with a view.
