Sakura Cherry Blossom in Chiang Rai Thailand

For decades, Japan is popular with its cherry blossom season or sakura season in April every year. It is one of the highlights and millions of travellers flock to Japan just for to witness the sakura or cherry blossom season. Often hotels and airlines are fully booked throughout in Japan during the season. Other than Japan, South Korea is also promoting the sakura season to attract visitors.

In the latest news, Chiang Rai will be planting cherry blossom trees to boost tourism. According to Tnews, the Governor Pongsak Wangsamer announced that officials from Chiang Rai have agreed to buy 1,000 cherry blossom trees from Japan to plant it along its roads and to create an iconic tourist destination. Thus, the local officials travelled to Kumamoto, Japan to strike the deal which will cost THB 3,000 per three for the project and the trees will be expected to be delivered in December.

The trees will be planted alongside about 20 kilometres of road running near the Chiang Rai’s International Airport and it will be called as the “Road of Sakura”. Landscapers will plan the trees and the project is expected to return their cost within three to four years.

It is definitely in my plans to try to visit Chiang Rai next year to see the cherry blossom in Chiang Rai’s Road of Sakura. Coincidently, Thai’s New Year or Songkran or the water festival will be at the same time of the cherry blossom season. Are you planning to visit Chiang Rai soon?
