Goanna Gallery Café at Dunsborough
Goanna Gallery Café at Dunsborough
If you are planning to self drive in Western Australia, you can make a stop at Dunsborough and there is a small café called Goanna Gallery Café. During my Gourmet Adventure with Chef Wan in Western Australia last year, I visited the café with Chef Wan and his fans.
The café is located inside the Australian bush land (Australia’s version of jungle). I liked the concept and the design of the café and how it blends in with the bush land. Thus, I loved the idea of using recycle materials to create sculptures for decorations.
Walk around and check out some of their decorations and their efforts. Since it is located in the bush land, photography in this area is beautiful and you can get the natural air as much as you can here.

We had the choices of Local fish and smoked salmon croquette on wilted spinach, roast tomato, dressed leaves and sauce gribiche or Sri Lankan coconut curry with prawn and baby squid, jasmine rice, chilli, bean shoot and herb salad. For dessert we had Aussie Pavlova with Seasonal fruits and cream.
Smoked salmon croquette on wilted spinach, roast tomato, dressed leaves and sauce gribiche
Smoked salmon croquette on wilted spinach, roast tomato, dressed leaves and sauce gribiche is absolutely mouth-watering. The croquette is deep fried to perfection and it compliments well with the dressed leaves and sauce gribiche. At first I thought this could be dry but it wasn’t that case. The fish is still juicy and the right balance of taste makes you want to order this again.
Sri Lankan coconut curry with prawn and baby squid, jasmine rice, chilli, bean shoot and herb salad
Sri Lankan coconut curry with prawn and baby squid, jasmine rice, chilli, bean shoot and herb salad is another tasty dish at Goanna. I thought that they can’t perfect this type of Asian dish but I was wrong. The rice was well cooked and I enjoyed their version of Sri Lankan coconut curry, flavourful and not too spicy. The taste is familiar with most Malaysians when you talk about ingredients like coconut curry and chilli. The prawns were fresh and this is another delightful dish.
Aussie Pavlova with Seasonal fruits and cream
Aussie Pavlova with Seasonal fruits and cream was the dessert. It comes with a beautiful presentation. It is too pretty to be eaten especially the combination of colours of fruits.
When you have a pavlova, you crack them. The pavlova isn’t that thick and sweet either. It is harmonious with the seasonal fruits and cream and I don’t mind coming back again just for the pavlova.
I am not sure whether the menu is specially designed for our tour or it is available on their regular menu. Since the meal is part of the tour, I am unsure how much the lunch cost but I don’t it will be too dear.
Goanna Gallery Café is definitely a hidden gem in Dunsborough. It is a beautiful place for lunch, children friendly café and some real awesome good food.
