Nobu KL Lunch Experience

In 1994, US based Japanese celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Oscar Winning Actor Robert De Niro opened Nobu, a modern Japanese restaurant in New York. Since then the three stars from New York Times and one Michelin star restaurant has offered unique experience of contemporary Japanese cuisine infused with Latin American flavours. With 29 locations around the world, Nobu has brought his global sophistication to Kuala Lumpur. This is Nobu’s first restaurant in Southeast Asia!

Nobu KL is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at Level 56 Menara 3 Petronas overlooking the beautiful Petronas Twin Tower, the KL Tower and the scenic city center. Nobu KL is a fine dine Japanese restaurant.
Even though Nobu KL is not a Michelin star restaurant but it inherits the great hospitality from the Nobu group. From the ground floor there is an usher who will escort Nobu KL guests to the restaurant and from there you will be seated with a view to kill.

Recently I visited the restaurant for a lunch with my friends as we heard that Nobu KL introduced new lunch menu and this is our first time visiting the restaurant since its opening last year. We ordered their new lunch bento as well as some of their signature dishes. Tiradito Nobu Style (RM 50)

Tiradito Nobu Style is a cold dish from the Nobu KL menu. What is Tiradito? Tiradito is a Peruvian dish of raw fish in sashimi and carpaccio style and this is served with Nobu style (citrus juice). The fish is cured naturally and the taste is very refreshing.

If you look at the presentation, the plate comes with design of trees on both sides and this is also a signature of Nobu. Nobu is not just about offering delicious food but also details in terms of presentation and plating.

Yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeno (RM 50)

The Yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeno is one of the signature dishes of Nobu. You can taste the freshness of the yellowtail and the slight hint of spiciness from Jalapeno. If you are looking for a quick lunch in Nobu KL, you should order their lunch and Bento sets.  Nobu KL does not pre-cook their food so it will take some time for them to prepare the food. Dining in Nobu KL is an experience so if you are in for a quick lunch, bento is the recommended food and that is the reason they created the lunch and bento sets.   Norwegian Salmon Crispy Leaves Lunch Set (RM65)

MATSUHISA is Sashimi Salad with Matsuhisa Dressing, Assorted Sushi, Baby Tiger Shrimp Tempura with Ponzu, Black Cod, Vegetables Spicy Garlic with Rice. This is a recommended lunch bento than their lunch sets. The black cod is absolutely gorgeous. It is very tasty and it goes well with the rice. It is the price you pay for fresh and quality food in Nobu KL. The sashimi is as fresh as you can get and you have no complains on the assorted sushi.     Beef Tenderloin Toban-Yaki  (RM 110)

Beef Tenderloin Toban-Yaki comes in sizzling hot pot with asparagus and mushrooms. We ordered medium rare but by the time we finished with our photo shooting, it turns medium. The sizzling hot pot cooks the meat while we were busy snapping pictures so you have to eat it while it is hot. We love the tenderness of the beef tenderloin and not forgetting the crunchy asparagus.

For desserts we ordered Yogurt Sub Zero and Natsu_No Fruits Pearl.

Yogurt Sub Zero is fresh Berries, Blueberry Sauce, Sesame Crisp and Yogurt Ice Cream. The healthy Yogurt Ice cream is tasty and you get the different textures and tastes from fresh Berries, Blueberry Sauce and Sesame Crisp. This is very enjoyable. Natsu_No Fruits Pearl (RM 40)

If you are looking for a unique dessert, you should order Natsu_No Fruits Pearl . Natsu_No Fruits Pearl is Lychee, Guava and Mandarin Pearl with Diced Pears and Mangoes, Jasmine Jelly, Yamamomo Granite and Rice Soup.

This is a beautiful dessert with red Yamamomo Granite and colour fruits pearl. The fruits pearl are fruits syrup mould into edible syrup pearls. Then, the rice soup will be poured onto the whole shebang. You get the cold crunchy texture of Yamamomo Granite and also the different taste of fruits syrups. The fruit syrups will burst in your mouth creates the small liquid explosion effect. Trust me, you will love this dessert.

Overall the food is good but only a few deserves a great shout. The pricing of the food is high but dining in Nobu KL is about the dining experience.

Ever wonder how Michelin tasting team gives a restaurant a Michelin star? It is not just about the food taste but also consistency and also dining experience. Dining experience means restaurant service, interior design and atmosphere, plating and presentation and taste of the food.
