O Tao Bang Niao Phuket Town Yam Oyster Omelette

This is probably one of the most unique food we tasted in Thailand. This stall is called O Tao Bang Niao and it is in Phuket Town. They are listed in the Michelin Guide 2019 Thailand with Michelin Plate. They are located at Phuket Road (Soi Saksit) in front of Thetsaban Bang Niao School.

O Tao Bang Niao is the one of the 15 restaurants and street food we reviewed listed in Michelin Guide Thailand 2019. This is our tenth restaurant review and there will be five restaurants review coming soon. You can check out the full list of restaurants in our special dedicated page at https://www.placesandfoods.com/themichelinguidethailand

We went round and round and managed to ask a few locals to show us the exact location of the stall. It is a roadside stall with a few tables and chairs.

O Tao Bang Niao offered two types of oyster omelette with yam and it is either with minced pork or seafood. We ordered the yam oyster omelette with seafood.

You can see locals come with bike and ordered this yam oyster omelette. They have been around for over 10 years.

We chose to eat by the roadside, something that we used to do so often in Kuala Lumpur. We can’t help but to see how they cooked their version of yam oyster omelette, the style is similar to our oyster omelette in Malaysia.

The yam oyster omelette comes with the fried egg. The strange part is they stir fried the egg and add another fried egg? The taste is definitely different than our oyster omelette. You get the taste of the yam and it is greasy and less starchy and spicy too.

You get the soft texture of the yam and the oyster, the bitey texture of the squid and prawn and the crunchy texture of the pork lard and the raw beansprout.

Overall we find the taste is unique especially adding yam and seafood. This is a rare find and it is a must try if you want to explore more local food. We are glad the Michelin Guide Thailand listed so now we know about them. The Michelin Guide is not about expensive and fancy food.

How do we travel around in Phuket? The best way to travel around Phuket and Phang Nga is by renting a car. There are many car rentals in Phuket International Airport and we usually book Thai Rent A Car as it is one of the largest car rental companies in Thailand. They have over 32 branches with over 8000 cars in their fleet.

Where do we stay in Phuket town? We stayed in Ibis Styles Phuket and it is located in the middle of the town. Check out their rates with Agoda at https://www.agoda.com/ibis-styles-phuket-city/hotel/phuket-th.html?cid=1538606
