Japanese Food with Pork at Japin, Sungei Wang Plaza, KL
*Written by Wilson Ng*
*NON-HALAL*
Its quite hard to find Japanese restaurant that serves pork in Klang Valley. Trust me on that, we had been looking but only few existed. Luckily, we found one in Sungei Wang Plaza, Jalan Bukit Bintang.
Japin’s cute logo.
Little did we know that the lower ground floor in Sungei Wang Plaza beside Parkson supermarket has turned to a mini food court with a few lovely restaurants opened there. Japin is one of them.
Katsu Kimuchi Ramen [Fried Chicken Chop with Kimchi Soup Ramen] – RM14.60
We started off with something rather unique, Katsu Kimuchi Ramen [Fried Chicken Chop with Kimchi Soup Ramen]. Using Kimchi soup was rather unique to us. Rachel loved this. Personally, I’m never a big fan of Korean based style of cooking except the BBQ. It’s just me, I never like kimchi but Rachel is totally opposite of me on this. That’s why its important to bring her along for food sessions. She has a different taste bud.
Gyoza [Fried Dumpling]- RM6.80
Mind for a side dish?
Chasyu Japin Ramen [Roasted Pork & Rich Soup with Noodles]- RM15.60
Check out the size of that roasted pork. It was huge. For soup based ramen lovers, this is recommended! Noticed the little things like the sesame seeds and the spring onions. Sometimes this little thing will add a little bit of taste to make a dish better.
Tondon [Pork Rice] – RM15.80
Well, since we loved to eat pork so much. We ordered quite a lot of pork based dishes. this was another one. Pork was stir fried tenderly and topped the white rice. Lovely.
Katsu Kimuchi Udon – [Kimchi Udon with Fried Chicken Chop] – RM16.30
Another kimchi based soup noodle. This time, it was the katsu kimuchi udon. If you noticed the word kimuchi, it means comfortable in Japanese. Well, most people would have the kimichi effect after having this… Kimuchi~~~
Teriyaki Chicken
We thought only the pork based dishes were good, yet the Teriyaki chicken was tasty too. Chicken were tender and blended well with the sweet teriyaki sauce. This was good.
Salmon Katsu – RM13.80
Fried salmon or known as salmon katsu was the least desirable dish of the night. To me, I found the salmon was too dry (after deep frying). Well, this is my personal preferences.
Pork Yakiniku Set
I thought we wanna get over with the main dishes, but I spotted the pork yakiniku set. I shamelessly ordered it. Well, it was another good dish, not a let down. Probably it was just me too in love with pork based dishes.
Dry Rice Ball – RM6.80 [Japanese Mua Chi]
My dad loved this, so do I. Enough said.
Shiratama – Red Bean Rice Ball – RM6.80
Sinfully sweet and tasty. This was a recommendation to end the dinner with.
Azuki-An-Nin [Almond Jelly Soup with Red Beans] – RM6.80
How to put in words for this, let see. For those, who loved the almond taste, this will be perfect. The distinctive taste of almond might not be easy for some people. Well, I fall into that category as well. It’s just subjectively personal preferences. No matter how I put this in words, Rachel loved this.
The creativity of some dishes might be the highlights of this restaurant. However, to me, having pork in Japanese menu is a big bonus. Food were generally good and pricing well quite standard “KL pricing”. Place was well lit up and comfortable, it’s a good family dining place. Not forgeting the service was good.

I rmbr that the one in Pg not so good but I went the otr day w a friend who came back frm Japan and he gave thumbs up for the ramen. we find the katsu don rice a bit overcooked but overall it was a good experience.
The chilli in oil was nice and spicy ;p I like!
U are right! They are currently changing the management of the PG’s outlet. Hopefully, they can offer better food there also.
