Exquisite Halal Chinese Food China Treasures at Sime Darby Convention Center, SDCC

*Written by Wilson Ng*

*HALAL*

This was something I was craving for. My attempt to review the restaurant during MIGF was futile. So a few weeks ago, I got tagged along for my first review for newly renovated China Treasures.

Well, it was worthwhile.

The place itself is classy. Located in Sime Darby Convention Center, parking is no issue and the best part is Muslims can come and dine here, its Halal.

For more private dining experience, there are few dedicated rooms for VIPs.

Not to mention the well decorated Chinese decorations. The renovation really did its part.

To start off with, we had the Sliced Cold Chicken topped with Green Chilli Sauce. Something about cold dishes. Cold dishes are pretty popular startes  in Hong Kong and China. Here, we Malaysian Chinese are not so used to it for starters. To me, this was good. Cold sliced chicken was topped with green chilli sauce that will give you a slight “kick” on the taste bud, yet it was good.

Deep Fried Mushroom with Wasabi Sauce was next and it kept us guessing what it was due to its outlook. As usual, deep fried dishes were popular and dipping it onto the mayo based wasabi sauce were somehow a good combinations. Crispy and addictive.

I’ve seen quite a bit of different dishes cooked with salted egg, such as prawns, squid and chicken. However, for mushroom it was my first. To be exact, it was the Deep Fried Shimeiji Mushroom with Salted Egg. The tiny mushrooms were coated with salted egg mixture. Crispy, addictive and sinful. Please do not do the calories count while having this.

Double Boiled Seafood Soup in Whole Pumpkin was another example of the creativity of the chef using different approach on his dishes. I had butter prawns in whole pumpkin before and it was good. Well, this was equally good either. The natural sweetness of the pumpkin and also fragrant double boiled seafood soup created a sweet and tasty soup with the generous amount of seafood within.

While we were eating, there was another chef making ramen as if he was practising his “kung-fu”.

Steam Live Star Garupa was freshly cooked and taken from a temporary fish tank in the restaurant. The meat was fresh and tender and it was steamed perfectly.

Roasted Duck Hong Kong Style was next. The crispy roasted duck was tasty enough to start off a debate on how good it was compare to others we had before. Crispy skin and tender meat, shall I debate on this?

Pan Fried Beef Cutlet with Mongolian Sauce was a surprise. Why a surprise? This looks like a western food to me until I took a first bite of it. Well marinated beef was tenderly pan fried and the combination with the Mongolian sauce was rather tasty for me.

Sauteed Seasonal Vegetables with Garlic was not meant for presentations only. The lightest dish of the night offered a simple light vege that was healthy and nice. Loved the greens.

Stop guessing what this was the Deep Fried Prawns with Portugese Sauce. Don’t be fooled by its appearance, the prawns was deep fried to crunchiness and topped with Portugese sause. It was lovely.

Sauteed Lamb Cubes with Sliced Garlic was probably Rachel’s favourite. She loved the lamb, not for no reason. Tenderly lamb cubes were tastefully cooked with sliced garlic.

The “kung fu” chef earlier on produced a well done La Mian with Minced Chicken and Mushroom in Spicy Sauce. My virgin ramen with miced chicken and mushroom in spicy sauce dated back to 2001 in Sydney’s Marketplace. The taiwanese restaurant offered an out of the world ramen experience that I still can remember up to day. Here, the ramen didn’t disappoint us as well. It was good.

Chilled Mango Cream with Pamelo and Sago was a refreshing dessert.  The mango cream was so nice that I had to order another one extra. Enough said.

Lastly, we had durians! Durian Pancake that satisfy our “durian” needs that ended the dinner with a smile on our faces.

Chef David weaved his magic that night and we had great time chatting with him.

How to end a lovely dinner without a camwhoring session?

The dinner was good and the place was comfy. Portion was nice and the service was good. I do wonder hows the pricing like though.
