Harujuku Old Train Station

Harujuku Old Train Station

This is one of the craziest things I did a couple of years ago. I purchased a ticket to Haneda Tokyo for the weekend as AirAsiaBIG had the Final Call X Sales back then. For your information, I only paid RM 157 for the return ticket from KLIA to Haneda and you can read it at https://www.placesandfoods.com/2017/04/kuala-lumpur-to-tokyo-haneda-return-ticket-for-rm-157-only.html. During that short trip to Tokyo which was my 2nd time to capital of Japan, I briefly visited Harajuku Old Train Station.

The Harajuku station is opened in 30 October 1906. The old train structure is the iconic representation of old train station in Tokyo.

The main reason I am posting this Harujuku Old Train Station because they renovated the station and reopened on March 2020 to expand the station for Tokyo Olympics 2020. It looks like a modern station now and they removed the old signature Harajuku station building.

Harajuku is the place to see the cosplayers gathered around during weekends as I was told. I went there during weekday and there was no cosplayers around. They only gather during weekends so if you want to spot them, go visit Harajuku on Saturday or Sunday. Sunday is the best bet as the tourist information told me.

The Harajuku Train Station is owned by JR East and it is part of the Yamanote Line (JR Line). You can use the JR line if you purchase the Tokyo Subway Unlimited Pass as it do not cover the JR train lines.

It feels complicated at first with all these passes but you will get used to it when you read the terms and conditions. The subway and train railways are owned by many different companies so there is no ultimate train pass that covers everything. If you want unlimited JR train ride, then you need to get the JR train passes only.

I am not sure whether we can travel in 2021 but let’s look back at old travel photos and plan for the future. I have written many Japan stories and you can read it at https://www.placesandfoods.com/category/japan

This is the Harujuku Old Train Station and it is part of the memory now.
