Krimper Café Best Brunch in Melbourne
Where is the best brunch in Melbourne? How about Krimper Café at 20 Guildford Lane Melbourne. Opened for eight years, we visited this café twice and the food is still up to expectation. I was at Melbourne last week as I was traveling with a group of KOL and Youtubers from Malaysia as invited by Visit Victoria.
I was lucky enough to meet the owner of Krimper Café, a retiree from Ipoh Malaysia who is now staying at Melbourne. Eight years ago, he decided to convert this unknown property at Guildford Lane to a café and business have been thriving since then.
The design concept behind Krimper is to allow the history of the building define its own character and tell its own story. While this sounds simple and easy, nothing could be further from the truth.
The interior design uses minimal lighting against water-blasted brick wall and Japanese-stained ply creates the sense of a warm and welcoming hearth. The café tables and chairs are made from recycled lift doors and old timber pieces that were obtained on site. The dis-used, 100-year-old lift car and mechanical wheels are used to recreate an inside dining booth, which has become a key feature of the café and the space area.
We were at Krimper Café for brunch and we ordered some of their signature food such as Eggs Benny, Pork Belly, Salmon, Krimper Burger and Roasted Cauliflower.
Eggs Benny or Eggs Benedict comes with either Beef Bulgogi / Soy Braised Mushroom / Smoked Salmon served w/ poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, spinach, shichimi, fried shallots on English muffins. We added halloumi (fried cheese).
Pork Belly is their version of braised pork belly and it comes with mixed green, roasted potato & salsa.
Salmon is pan fried with beetroot puree, quinoa salad, brussel sprout, pickle onion & crispy kale.
Krimper Burger offers option from Wagyu Beef / Chicken Karaage / Vegan Patty. We chose the Chicken Karaage and it comes with cafe de paris aioli, caramelised onion, American cheese, tomato, cos lettuce and tomato relish. Chicken karaage is deep fried to crispiness with tender texture and this is really tasty with American cheese and greens.
Roasted Cauliflower comes with Tumeric, guacamole, aioli, thyme savory crumble and dukkah. This is really a simple dish. Roast cauliflower with some spices but why not many people are doing this? Whoever created this simple dish is simply genius. Not forgetting their Matcha Latte is out of the world.
I didn’t eat every single dish but overall the comment from the group is the food is good. I had a lengthy chat with the owner and the hospitality here is like home. Second visit, the food at Krimper Café is still good and no doubt it is the best brunch in Melbourne for my recent trip.
