Central Market Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Central Market Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Hey it is 2023 and time to bring our boys to visit some of the local destinations in our city, Kuala Lumpur. Recently, we brought our boys to visit Central Market Kuala Lumpur or also known as ‘Pasar Seni’ in Malay. If you plan to visit Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, this is one of the tourist hotspots.
This market opened since 1888 and I still remember how it looks like when I was a kid before they turned it into the current Central Market in 1986. Back then, it was a real market and I still remember some stalls selling spices as mini busses stop at Central Market until the 1990s.
The Central Market went thru a huge renovation in 1986, turned into a shopping mall like market with full air conditioner. The idea is to offer more culture, heritage and art shops at Central Market Kuala Lumpur.
Went the pandemic struck, it went thru a 3 months renovation in 2020 and we recently visited Central Market and partial of the market is still closed.
The local stalls selling handicrafts and arts are closed and it seems like it is under upgrading works or renovation. We do understand that the lack of tourists for the past couple of years and the lockdown heavily affected the businesses here and some of the parts of Malaysia.
Our visit coincide with Chinese New Year holiday and hence some shops are still enjoying their holiday break. The once busy and packed Central Market is now quiet with limited tourists.
We thought that we will see throng of Chinese tourists in the city but only a few of them were spotted at Central Market Kuala Lumpur. Probably they are in Genting Highlands or at some of other shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur.
The clothing and fashion section is on the upper floor and most of them are closed due to the festive holiday.
Most of the shops selling handicrafts and souvenirs are still opened and the Royal Selangor authorized shop is still going strong.
We hope more tourists will come and visit Central Market Kuala Lumpur Malaysia this year. More tourists will bring more revenue to tourist hotspot like Central Market Kuala Lumpur and other tourist destinations in Malaysia.
You can easily get here via the LRT and MRT within walking distance. It is also walking distance to Petaling Street aka Chinatown of KL.
