Let’s talk to one of the places we stayed in Peru, La Punta. If you are not a local, you might never heard of La Punta. La Punta is one of the seven districts that make up the port city of Callao. During our stay, we visited one of their most popular restaurant, Don Giuseppe.

We stayed at La Punta as one of our Peruvian relative owned an apartment there and hence we stayed there. The other reason is La Punta is nearer to the Lima International Airport and we wanted to do island hopping in Callao. During our stay at La Punta, we were recommended to visit the famous Don Giuseppe Restaurant.

They open from 8 am to 4.30 pm on weekends and 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays. We went there early and manage to avoid the long queue. Waited a few minutes for a table and chat with some of the locals. La Punta is a upper class area so most of the people here speaks simple English.

This restaurant is popular with their fish sandwich / burger. Their top seller is Pejerrey which is fried fish burger sandwich which is out of this world.

You must order the Pejerrey Sandwich / Burger. Pejerrey is ‘smelt’ is a small silver fish and it is a very popular ingredient in Peruvian cuisine. Pejerrey sandwich is deep fried fish in batter with salsa criolla and Aji dipping sauce.

Salsa criolla offers the acidic taste that adds more flavour to the fish and the sandwich while the Aji dipping sauce is their yellow chili sauce that is spicy and less sweet.

It is so good, we ordered two Pejerrey Sandwich and it is one of the best food we tasted in Peru. The fish is fresh and crispy on the outer layer and this is super addictive.

We also ordered their ham and cheese sandwich but that is ordinary. Just order their Pejerrey and you won’t regret it. We did some research, this dish is also popular in other Latin American countries too.

We also ordered two coffee and it was quite decent. It is good enough to kick start the day and enjoy the warm weather at La Punta during summer.
