Nanzoin Bronze Buddha Fukuoka Japan
Nanzoin Bronze Buddha Fukuoka Japan
This is probably the most interesting and unique place to visit in Fukuoka Japan. During my trip to Fukuoka Japan, Nanzoin is one of the must visit places as it has one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in the world.
Fukuoka is probably one of the most underrated cities in Japan. When I visited this beautiful city in summer, I fell in love with it. Fukuoka is not packed as other popular cities in Japan and you can also do many day trips from this city.
Nanzoin is a Buddhist temple located in Sasaguri, a town in the Fukuoka prefecture of Japan. You can take the train to Kido Nanzoin-Mae station from the Hakata station and it will take around 26 minutes and you probably take another 5 minutes of walking to the temple.
The Nanzoin temple complex is huge! It is not just for the bronze Buddha statue but they also several buildings such as the main hall, a pagoda, and a hall of worship. If not mistaken, it covers a huge area of 25 hectares.
Please take the map from the temple as it will make your life easier to navigate to the bronze Buddha.
Since I visited the temple during summer, it rains occasionally and it was raining during my visit. Hence, I didn’t take as many photos and videos as I planned.
Firstly, you go through the Shichifukujin Tunnel. This is a beautiful tunnel where the Seven Gods of Fortune that may grand your wishes.
Then you will meet the gigantic deity. After I made some research, it is called Fudoumyouou and it is believed to protect worshipers from disasters and harm.
There is also a waterfall nearby so this place is worth to visit and hangout if you want tons of photos and videos for your social media.
The main attractions is the reclining or sleeping bronze Buddha. It is said to be largest but I believed it is one of the largest in the world.
It measures 41 metres in length, 11 metres in height and weights around 300 tons.
As it was raining, I didn’t take many photos and videos and here is my mistake. There is a huge print at the bottom of the foot (that I missed out) so if you plan to visit, please check it out.
If you noticed, the Buddha also holding a string and you can actually go nearer for photo. Please do check out at the back of the Buddha too for surprises.
Take some time and enjoy the sceneries within the temple area. If not raining, I would probably spent at least an hour or more to chill and enjoy the nature. Check out the opening hours below for you to manage your visiting hours.
