KAWS Sculpture Park PT Leo Estate Melbourne
KAWS Sculpture Park PT Leo Estate Melbourne
This is one of the interesting places we visited during our recent trip to Melbourne. This is the KAWS Sculpture Park PT Leo Estate Melbourne and they are still having the exhibition up to today.
The KAWS Sculpture Park at Pt Leo Estate is a renowned outdoor art space located in 3649 Frankston – Flinders Rd, Merricks, Victoria, Australia. It is a collaboration between Pt Leo Estate, a winery and restaurant, and the internationally acclaimed artist KAWS (Brian Donnelly). The park showcases a collection of large-scale sculptures by KAWS in a picturesque coastal setting.
Pt Leo Estate, situated on the Mornington Peninsula, is a prominent destination for wine, food, and art. The collaboration with KAWS has added a unique artistic element to the estate’s offerings. The park features several of KAWS’ iconic sculptures, including his signature character, Companion, which is a recurring motif in his artwork.
Visitors to the KAWS Sculpture Park can explore the expansive grounds and admire the captivating sculptures that blend pop culture references with contemporary art aesthetics.
The entrance fee is $10 per adult, $5 per children and concession and $20 per family admission.
The park’s outdoor setting allows for a dynamic experience, with the sculptures interacting with the surrounding landscape and changing light throughout the day.
Taking pride of place, SHARE 2020 is a 5.5-metre-tall cast bronze creature that welcomes all into the sculpture park. The creature, clutching a small blue friend (it’s BFF), is easily seen as you approach the iconic Queensland bottle tree at the main entrance.
KAWS, AKA Brian Donnelly, was commissioned by Mrs Pauline Gandel prior to the COVID-19 pandemic with the project having been in the making for some 14 months. In late 2019, the NGV featured an exhibition of more than 100 pieces of Kaw’s works.
As you enter the building, you are also welcomed by SHRIVE II. A Matrix of cast iron blocks. Through this work, Anthony Gormley recalls both architectural elements and a human body with a distinct attitude.
It is a huge park and you can spent at least an hour if you go thru each and every sculpture at PT Leo Estate. If you are contemporary art lover, you must visit the KAWS Sculpture Park PT Leo Estate Melbourne.
Overall, the KAWS Sculpture Park at Pt Leo Estate offers a unique fusion of art, nature, and gastronomy. It provides an immersive experience for art enthusiasts and visitors looking to appreciate the beauty of the sculptures amidst the stunning backdrop of the Mornington Peninsula.
Don’t forget to check out PT Leo Estate wines when you are there. You can also get a bottle or two of their signature wines or bubbles back too! This trip is sponsored by Tourism Melbourne and AirAsia X.
