Restoran Buddies Taman Shamelin Perkasa Cheras

We used to work at Taman Shamelin Perkasa Cheras over 10 years ago. Since then, we seldom visit this part of Cheras as this is more like industrial area. Recently, we were told there is a popular Chinese restaurant at Taman Shamelin Perkasa called Restoran Buddies. So far, we read positive reviews about this restaurant and hence we went to check it out.

From what we know, the two chefs at Restoran Buddies used to work for Overseas Restaurant for 30 years. This is the reason why they have so many loyal customers. During weekend, it is impossible to get a table without reservation.

Restoran Buddies is located at 11g, Lorong 6 A/91, Taman Shamelin Perkasa. Please google or Waze the map as this place is quite confusing. Parking is hard to find during weekdays but not weekends. They are open for lunch and dinner and closed on Mondays.

We went there early and asked the lady boss for the specialties. We ordered Claypot Fish, Signature Crispy Pork Belly, Fried Squid Ball, Seng Kuang Tofu and Stir Fried Prawns with Superior Sauce.

Claypot Fish or they called it in Chinese ‘Tan Heong’ Claypot. The fish is tilapia fish / Kam Fong Fish. The fish is cut into pieces, deep fried and stir fried with the savoury spicy sauce.

It tops with pork lard and this is really tasty. The fish is immense in flavor with hints of spiciness and this goes well with the rice.

Signature Crispy Pork Belly with lettuce. We thought this is pork ribs but it is actually pork belly or their version of char siew.

What we like about this is their crispy outer layer texture while inside is soft and almost melt in the mouth. Please wrap the pork belly with lettuce so you get the taste balanced.

Fried Squid Ball is a big surprise. This is not the usual frozen squid ball from the supermarket. This homemade squid ball is soft in the texture and it comes with that crispy breadcrumb. This is the best squid ball ever, better than the one we had in Macau.

Seng Kuang Tofu is another popular dish here. The homemade tofu is silky smooth and it comes with that soft texture. It has been a while since we tasted such tasty tofu and this is a must order.

Stir Fried Prawns with Superior Sauce. They offered few types of prawns and we ordered ‘ming har’. The prawns are fresh and it is deep fried to perfection. The shell is so crispy and you can actually eat it. Together with the sweet superior sauce, this is love at first bite.

To be honest, we love all the dishes at Restoran Buddies Taman Shamelin Perkasa Cheras. It is hard to find a Chinese restaurant that can cook such quality dishes. All the food we ordered are tasty and we are coming back for more. This is not a paid review and the total bill comes to RM 190 for family of six people. Remember to make reservation as it is quite packed during weekends.
