Visit Victoria Day 7: Sand Sculpting Exhibition, St. Kilda, Dinner onboard the Colonial Tramcar, Bar tour With Michelle Matthews of Deck of Secrets.
It is day seven of our discovering Victoria and we drive from Sorrento to Frankston, a town near Melbourne. We are visiting one of the most unique attractions in Victoria, the Sand Sculpting Exhibition. If you have been reading our journey, we have really experienced many unique experiences in our six days in Victoria and this is another one.
It was a sunny day in Frankston and the sky was ultimate blue.
Sand Sculpting exhibition at Frankston Waterfront
Sand Sculpting exhibition at Frankston Waterfront is one of the most prominent attractions in Victoria for the past few years.
For a person who never visited a sand sculpting exhibition (or even you have been one), this is really an eye opener! Every year, they will recreate the exhibition with different themes.
This year it is the Creepy Crawlies theme for 2011. Many sand sculptures are very Tim Burton’s styles look alikeness. Sculptors are sourced worldwide to produce the masterpieces at the exhibition. The work and the details of their sand sculptures are eye openers. The exhibition is a good place for family.
The exhibition is open each day from 10am with All Day entry tickets available at the event ticket box or the Frankston Visitor Information Centre (pass outs are available). Prices are $10 for adults, $8 for concession (aged, student and disability), $7 for a child aged 4-12, with discounted family tickets also available. For further information, including daily weather updates and closing times, go to www.sandstormevents.com.au or phone 1300 322 842.

Frankston Waterfront, 7 Pier Promenade (off Nepean Hwy)
Official closing – Tuesday, 26 April, 2011
Next, we went to the beautiful St. Kilda Beach of Victoria.
St Kilda Beach
St Kilda is one of Melbourne’s beach side suburbs and does a frenetic Friday night whirl with laidback Saturday morning style featuring extra panache.
Wander the esplanade to take in the ocean breezes, rollerblade along the beachside or try Acland Street for a fulfilling breakfast or a morning tea of delectable cakes.
Acland Street a land of tastes, cakes and fashion, where it’s Sunday seven days a week! It is a bustling, vibrant street with an eclectic mix of restaurants, wine bars and continental cake shops. During the day the streets are lined with people drinking lattes, at night they’re buzzing with clubbers and night owls.
Every city has a signature theme dinner. For Bangkok, it is river cruise dinner and for Melbourne, it is the dinner onboard the Colonial Tramcar.
Dinner onboard the Colonial Tramcar.
Colonial Tramcar Restaurant offers lunch and dinner in some of Melbourne’s oldest trams dating back to 1927, which have been elegantly refurbished in Pullman style decor to become the world’s first mobile tramcar restaurant. Glazed windows allow diners to privately enjoy the passing scenery while enjoying a meal.
The experience of having dinner on the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant is unforgettable. The food was good and the service was outstanding.
It felt really funny dining on the tram looking out to the busy city of Melbourne. Like I said, it is a must do thing in Melbourne.

After dinner, there are no better places to go rather than bar tour. For that, we seek help from the best of the best. She is Michelle Matthews of Deck of Secrets.
Bar tour With Michelle Matthews of Deck of Secrets.
Deck of Secrets
In 2003, Michelle Matthews took her successful travel guidebook concept and created a new format, with the first title being ‘Bar Secrets of Melbourne’. This innovative concept featuring 52 cards with a bar on each card (including a description of the bar and a map of where it’s located) has been a huge success and the concept is rapidly spreading throughout the world. In addition to ‘Bar Secrets of Melbourne’, you are also able to purchase ‘Shopping Secrets of Melbourne’, ‘Dining Secrets of Melbourne’ as well as numerous Bar Secrets for other cities in Australia and around the world.
Having the bar tour is like having a real like talking Deck of Secrets. Michelle brought us from one bar to another bar and explained to us in details the specialty of every single bar. The one hour bar tour ended at one of popular sake bars with us toasting on our little sake glasses.
