The Never Ending Summer Restaurant Bangkok
The Never Ending Summer Restaurant is one of the unique restaurants in Bangkok. Opened since last year, the restaurant received many positive reviews on its design.
This is the brainchild of Thai architect Duangrit Bunnag who converted an old warehouse to a restaurant. Maintaining mostly the structure, the restaurant offers a beautiful, cozy and sophiscated dining experience. The restaurant is located along the Chao Phraya River and it is recently visited by Matthew McConaughey (star of Intersellar).
I visited the restaurant with my friends as we were looking for a very cozy dining experience for dinner. It is located within the Jam Factory (also owned by the same owner) and you can spot a few newly warehouses converted to café, offices and restaurant.
When you step into the restaurant, you get the “wow” first impression of the interior. It doesn’t look like a warehouse but a very trendy restaurant.
It is very spacious, the tables are well lit and I like their open kitchen concept. The kitchen is separated by the dining hall with a piece of glass. You can see the action going on backstage like Hell’s Kitchen minus the yelling and screaming.
The restaurant offers Thai cuisine and desserts. Their target audience is for “hiso” so their menu prices are slightly on the high side.
Thai Herbal Infused Water
Thai herbal infused water is lightly pink coloured herbal water in a bottle. Most likely the Thai herbal is roselle? This is cold and refreshing.
Steamed Fish Cake with Red Curry In a Banana Leaf
Since the menu doesn’t come with picture, we can’t visualise the dish. Thus, when it is served, it looks like Thai’s version of “otak-otak”. This is spicy and the taste slightly different than “otak-otak”.
Blanched rice vermicelli with salted soy beans and coconut milk sauce and toufu
This is stir fried rice vermicelli (mee hoon) with salted soy beans and coconut milk sauce and toufu. It is best to have the rice vermicelli and the vegetables together so you can taste different textures. Remember to eat with the spices. This is a common dish with some new “dressing” for me.
Deep Fried Crispy Omelette with Pork Crackling
Their version of crispy omelette and topped with pork crackling (deep fried pork lard). This is good with rice and please don’t count the calories.
Grilled Rib Eye (from Australia)
This is definitely the dish of the evening. The rib eye is well cooked and we love the tenderness of the meat as well as the taste.
Coconut Milk Ice Cream
This is typical coconut ice cream, nothing fancy about it. We ordered it because I love coconut ice cream.
Dumplings with Taro in Coconut Milk
Dumpling with taro (yam) in coconut milk is rich in flavour with small taro “dumplings”. This is a warm dessert and again nothing spectacular about the taste.
Dining at The Never Ending Summer Restaurant is all about the experience. The food is above average but the service is excellent. We love the ambience and the dining experience in the restaurant. Too bad it was raining that evening so we couldn’t take pictures near the river banks. Matthew McConaughey showed up later in that evening or else we will have many selfie pictures.
