Gohtong Jaya’s Famous Frog Mee Hoon & Crispy Pork Belly @ Restoran Hou Wan
This was not a planned visit to Gohtong Jaya. This was weeks ago when Rachel is at Genting Highlands for an event, together I went up with my youngest brother. We had a few rounds in the casino but it wasn’t our day so we decided to call it a day. Before heading home, we went to Gohtong Jaya for a quick lunch.
There is a row of restaurants and we chose Restoran Hou Wan in random. Since this is our first time there, I ask for their best recommendations and they recommended frog mee hoon and the crispy pork belly. Thus, we also order the hokkien mee.
The crispy pork belly comes first (RM 12). Thin sliced pork belly is deep fried and stir fried with sweet dark sauce. it has a very crispy and crunchy texture and it goes well with the sauce. Fried food is hard to go wrong.
Hokkien mee is next and priced at RM 11. Hokkien mee is not an easy plate dish to cook. Many restaurants sell hokkien mee but it doesn’t mean good. It is nothing impressive here either.
Lastly, we had the frog mee hoon at RM 36. Slightly pricey maybe due to the frog meat. Personally, I’m not so much a big fan of frog meat. I had them once in a blue moon and the reason I tried this because I was told this is good. And the lady boss didn’t lie as it taste better than my expectation. The frog meat is fresh and the meat is tender. The mee hoon is cooked beautifully with the blend of the soup (with Chinese wine I suspect) and garlic.
Overall, the food is pretty good except the Hokkien mee. For the pricing, it is slightly on the high side but definitely cheaper than the food on Genting Highlands.
