Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga Campus: Our Excellent One Year Stay in Australia
We studied in Charles Sturt University (CSU) Wagga Wagga Campus in year 2001. Like many other Malaysians, there was not much known about this university. Located in the state of New South Wales (NSW), Wagga wagga or known as “Land of Crows” by the aborigines is accessible by land or air. It will take approx. 4 hours drive from Melbourne, 3 hours drive from Canberra and 5 hours drive from Sydney. By air it would take probably an hour flight from Sydney. Wagga wagga is also accessible via train. I forgot how long it takes from Sydney; it is definitely more than 5 hours.
The first impression was the place is a farmland. Yes, it was but there is also a small town center. The CSU campus is isolated from the town. Probably at least 10 km from the town, there are shuttle busses ferrying students from campus to town.
There are also hostels or better known as cottages in the campus. Campus staying is much easier but slightly more expensive than renting out in the town. There is also an option to eat in campus with a cost. Back then there was a Chinese chef part of the team for the canteen.
There is also a gym, a swimming pool, a mini mart, a mini pos office, a pub (yeah!) and a huge field. If you intend to stay in campus, please take the cottage. If you take the twin sharing option, it is another part of the Wagga wagga, you have to take busses to the campus while cottage is just walking distance.

what about the cost of living there ?
Hi Ann,
It wasn’t that bad and cheaper comparing to Sydney or Melbourne. The exchange rates might do the damage now. Peaceful place and lovely environment.
You can always rent a room in town but you need to catch the uni bus.
Hope this will help.
