Raffles Hotel Snow Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle and Ganache Review
Raffles Hotel Snow Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle and Ganache Review
It is time of the year when Chinese communities around the world celebrate Mid Autumn Festival with mooncakes. There are now so many mooncakes in the market and which are the better ones?
We had a conversation about which is the best moon cakes recently and according my friend, her favourite is Raffles Hotel Snow Skin Mooncake with Champagne Truffle and Ganache. She told us that she fell in love with her first bite and she had it a few years ago. The problem is it is the Raffles Hotel in Singapore and it is purely handmade so either you need to visit the Lion City to collect it after you pre-book it online or try your luck visiting the hotel.
We told her to get us one box if she getting the mooncakes and she did. She flew down to Singapore with her husband for a weekend just for the Raffles Hotel Mooncake. Wonder why I only ordered one box? It is priced at $52 which is around RM 120++ per box of mooncake of eight mini moon cakes.
The metal box itself is very attractive.
As we opened the box, there is a thin paper reads “Original Raffles Hotel Moon cake”.
There are 8 mini moon cakes. Trust me, the skin is super soft. As we opened the cover, we can smell the fragrance of the snow skin.
It seems to be the moon cake was not cold enough so it was still very soft. I tried to cut it nicely but failed. It should be kept in the fridge 0 – 4 degree Celsius.
I ate half of the moon cake. To be frank the filling is very soft and there is a bit of hints of champagne. It was good and it tasted very similar with my mum’s moon cakes. I strongly believe that the ingredients used for it are natural as the filling is “non sticky”. Most commercial moon cake fillings are “sticky”. A natural or homemade moon cake can only last for a week, other than that you can figure it out yourselves.
The moon cake lived up to its expectations but I do felt it is slightly overpriced. It was my first champagne truffle moon cake and it was really tasty. It could be better if paired it with champagne.
My mother loves this moon cake as well and there is a reason why it is highly priced and so popular because it is that good!
