Ng Ah Sio Pork Ribs Soup: Singapore’s Best Bak Kut Teh

My Singaporean uncle told me it is the best Bak Kut Teh (Pork Ribs Herbal Tea Soup) in Singapore. The place is notoriously popular for turning down Mr. Donald Tsang’s request for a bowl of the soup and it claims that they kicked out Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra after a disagreement over a bowl of innards.

It was last year my uncle brought me to this famous Bak Kut Teh. The place was crowded when we reached there. The interior is similar to our Malaysian’s Old Town Restaurants.

We ordered the “Tang O” vegetables as side dishes.

Then we have the Braised Winter Mushroom.

Next was the Braised Pig Intestine.

We ordered a few bowls of their Signature Pork Spare Ribs Soup. The soup was quite heavily flavoured with pepper and the taste of the herbs was minimal. It is different than the ones we have in Malaysia. Personally, I would prefer to have more herbs taste rather than the pepper taste. Well, that’s my preferences.

Nevertheless, the food there was generally good.  The bill came to about S$70 inclusive of the chinese tea. For Singapore, it could be the best but if compare to the ones in Malaysia, it is debatable. Yet, if you are in Singapore and you want to have a good Bak Kut Teh experience, Ng Ah Sio Pork Ribs Soup is still the place to go.

  1. Best in Singapore? Hmm, that’s debatable too. Lots of people tell me the quality is no longer the same. Haven’t tried it myself, and I also prefer the Malaysian herbal type of bak kut teh! 🙂
