Latest Update: Best JR Pass Prices and Rates in Malaysia

Many people might be wondering where to buy JR Pass in Malaysia. Well, I just bought mine yesterday. It is available at the Japan Travel Bureau (M) Sdn Bhd at Level 16, Amoda Building, Kuala Lumpur.
The Amoda building is located in between Melia Hotel and Imbi Plaza and it is directly opposite Berjaya Times Square. It is also located at the back of Plaza Low Yat and Sungei Wang Plaza.
Just head to Amoda Building and go to Level 16, you will see the Japan Travel Bureau office there.
Go in and ask for JR pass and you will receive the information at the counters available. There, you can also collect information from brochures and catalogues of various tourist destinations and attractions of Japan.
Remember, JR Pass is only for foreign tourists so REMEMBER to BRING your PASSPORT for verification. The rates and availability of JR PASS is as below:
Type: | Green | Ordinary | ||
Duration | Adult | Child | Adult | Child |
7-day | 37,800 YEN | 18,900 YEN | 28,300 YEN | 14,150 YEN |
14-day | 61,200 YEN | 30,600 YEN | 45,100 YEN | 22,550 YEN |
21-day | 79,600 YEN | 39,800 YEN | 57,700YEN | 28,850 YEN |
Green is the “VIP” Pass which costs higher. I bought the ordinary one which is 28,300 YEN and it is RM 1075.00 (8th March 2011).
Why purchase locally?
It’s not that I don’t trust online purchase but to have the pass physically with me it’s safer. Furthermore, I prefer to plan everything ahead before my trip.
Please REMEMBER to pay in CASH. There are CHARGES on CREDIT CARD purchases.
After you pay, JTB will issue you a ticket. This is NOT THE ACTUAL JR PASS. You still need to exchange it at any JR offices in Japan. Just ask any officers in Japan and they will issue you the JR PASS. Remember to FILL IN the dates you wanted to use in Japan. The ticket has a validity of 3 MONTHS.
I hope this information will help independent or backpackers travelers traveling in Japan. Good luck and have fun in Japan!
