Authentic Malaysian Favourites at Makan Kitchen’s High Tea

Authentic Malaysian Favourites at Makan Kitchen’s High Tea

A few weeks ago, Rachel and I decided to go for a high tea that serves traditional and authentic Malaysian food. We are getting sick of having the usual high tea food so we spent our weekend afternoon at the Makan Kitchen, DoubleTree by Hilton. Located at Level 11, this 350 seating dining venue is locally inspired theme is offering diners a scrumptious high tea menu at RM 45++ (US$ 15++) per person and RM 22++  (US$7++) per child below 12 years old every Saturday and Sunday from 12.30pm to 4pm.

The high tea buffet spread offering of over 60 dishes. Items are served from its three live show kitchens with 6 local cuisines that include Malay, Chinese, Indian, Peranakan, Kristang (Malaccan-Portuguese) and Iban delights.

I came to Makan Kitchen last year for the MIGF review. I still can remember clearly how tasty is the wagyu beef rendang. Coincidently I bumped to the chef again this time around.

The best part of Makan Kitchen is the space and the varieties of food. Instead of having one place serving all the food, they separate it to sections.

We started off with Malay delights such as roti jala.

To have fresh roti jala is my first time. Seeing the chef making roti jala is like so easy but actually it is not. I believe it takes time to practise to have such technique.

Satay is always my favourite food. Makan Kitchen serves both chicken and beef satay.

Satay is best eaten with fresh cucumber, onion, ketupat (leaf wrapped rice) and hot peanut gravy.

Nasi Lemak bungkus is something you can savour.

For Indian food, how can we forget our beloved “roti canai” with the dhal curry.

Naan with tandoori chicken, look at the colour of the tandoori chicken. This is mouth-watering stuff.

For Chinese food, you can try their specialties such as Peking duck!

The Chinese kitchen offer varieties of food such as barbeque yam puff, deep fried wanton, prawn spring roll and sesame ball with red bean paste.

For desserts, malay kuih and fruit stations are available too. Remember the old days when we indulge the tasty “kuih-muih” for Malay old lady run stalls? Relive the moments here with their fresh “kuih-muih”. This is pure street food style.

Another must try in Makan Kitchen is their Ice Cream Teppanyaki. I bet many have heard about Teppanyaki but with ice cream? It is something for you to try.

For those who will be bringing their children, Makan Kitchen has a kid section. One of the many firsts I believe, parents can have a peaceful high tea while their children can play at the kid section.

  1. The Peak Tram and Victoria Peak are famous sites on Hong Kong Island. A short walk from the Central MTR station or board the Peak Tram shuttle bus No. 15C at the Central Bus terminus(Pier 7).
