Wine Tasting at Domaine Chandon, Yarra Valley, Victoria Australia.

A few months ago, I was traveling in Victoria Australia in a self-drive trip. There, I ventured places like Mornington Peninsula, Philip Island and Yarra Valley. During my stay in Yarra Valley, I have the previledge to visit a few vineyards and wineries. Domaine Chandon is one of them.

The history of Domaine Chandon goes like this. In the 1960s, Moët & Chandon began exploring the potential to produce sparkling wines outside France and they saw the opportunity in Australia. Thus, they found the ideal site for growing traditional cool climate champagne grape varieties in Yarra Valley. In addition, they found an old daily farm named “Green Point” and since 1986, this has become Domaine Chandon.

Domaine Chandon is always a crowded place. With its high quality wines, visitors and wine lovers would travel to there to try and purchase one of the finest wines in Australia. I am not an expert in wine drinking or tasting but I do enjoy the excitement of it.

There were four different wines for tasting, Chandon Vintage Brut 2008, Chandon Vintage Brut Rose 2006, Chandon Sparkling Pinot Shiraz and Chandon Cuvee Riche. They will explain the significant taste of each wine.

Each wine has its own story. Tasting each of it is like a going through different journey of tastes.  Out of the four, I prefer the Chandon Vintage Brut Rose 2006. The best part of wine tasting at Domaine Chandon is the magnificent landscape of their vineyard. The pictures tell the story, aye.

After the wine tasting session, I bought a few bottles of wines for gifts. As I travelled to more vineyards, I bought more wines. I ended up with around 5 to 6 bottles of wine at the end of the day. Well, if you are at one of the best wine producing area I bet you will do the same.

Please do enquire their winery tour as well. It is as good as the wine tasting. It was a great learning experience and it is suitable for a group of friends or even family. Please do contact them in advance. Trust me, the place is usually packed! Get your booking to avoid disappointment.
