Aseanita for Asean 45th Anniversary
Aseanita for Asean 45th Anniversary
This year, Asean Day (8th August 2012) marks the 45th anniversary of Asean. Why is this date so important?
45 years ago, the founders of Asean realized that our communities are inextricably linked to one another, interwoven in a tapestry of shared dreams and destinies. They formed a geopolitical and economic bloc, called Asean, to shape that tapestry together. These countries are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. On 8 August 1967, Asean was born. From 5 countries, Asean expanded to 10 countries to include Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. 45 years later, Asean is a 600m strong, wealthy community with a GDP of USD2.1trn that is becoming increasingly well-connected through mobile internet and the low cost carrier revolution in air travel.
The time has come to realize that we are not just people of 1 country, but 1 region. We are Asean.
Hence, Air Asia decided to introduce a fictional character called Aseanita to celebrate this important date in the region.
Aseanita is a young fictional character of Asean heritage and she speaks for all of us who calls the Asean region home. She dreams the impossible and never takes no for an answer.
“Traveling and making friends are my passion. I love sharing Asean cultures wherever I am and enjoy the warm hospitality received at every destination too. Come join me in my pursuit of happiness in Asean!” – Aseanita
Aseanita promotes the region through Facebook (www.facebook.com/Aseanita) and Twitter (@Aseanita) by encouraging interest in Asean through its history, travel destinations, cultures, food and people, among others.
AirAsia Asean is throwing its support to Aseanita by offering 30 pairs of free roundtrip plane tickets to lucky friends of Aseanita. Anyone who “likes” Aseanita on Facebook and completes a short form online stands a chance to win free tickets. One winner is randomly chosen each day until August 8, the 45th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The winner may fly between September 15 and December 15, 2012 to any of AirAsia’s 55 Asean destinations. The 30 winners will be featured on Aseanita’s Facebook page’s “Wall of Fame.”
The free flights campaign, called Share, Dream and Fly, is run by AirAsia Asean together with SocialGrooves.com, a social media consultancy. The Share, Dream and Fly campaign is AirAsia asean’s way of helping to celebrate ASEAN Day on August 8.
Luck is on our side as we just won two tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi, Vietnam. However, there are still twenty pairs of tickets to be won. Hence, try your luck now and you might be the next lucky one like us. Visit their Facebook page now and good luck!
