Dynasty Restaurant MIGF 2012 Menu at Renaissance Hotel
Dynasty Restaurant MIGF 2012 Menu at Renaissance Hotel
This is our forth review on MIGF 2012 participating restaurant and also Renaissance Hotel’s second participating restaurant, Dynasty Chinese Restaurant. For those who didn’t know about this restaurant, it is one of the few hotel restaurants that offer non-Halal food. Yes, it was our family’s favourite Chinese restaurants. We loved their signature suckling pig. In fact you can review our short review in 2008 at Dynasty Restaurant @ Renaissance Hotel KL.
At Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel, Executive Sous Chef Kok Chee Kin at Dynasty Restaurant (Non-Halal) had lined up a repertoire of contemporary Cantonese cuisine. The good looking chef was humble and yet humorous. He shared some of his ideas for the MIGF 2012 Menu he crafted.

Abalone with chilled spicy vermicelli salad
Abalone with chilled spicy vermicelli salad
Sliced fresh abalone with chilled spicy vermicelli salad, I thought the portion was ideal for an appetizer. This chilled spicy vermicelli salad was refreshing and I loved the texture of the abalone. It was a great appetizer to start with.
Steamed seafood orange dumpling
Steamed seafood orange dumpling
This was definitely not the ordinary dumpling. This was a mouthful of seafood and complimented with fried slices of carrots and also the orange sauce.
Yin Yang Norwegian salmon (Tartar & marinated salmon with olive oil)
Yin Yang Norwegian salmon (Tartar & marinated salmon with olive oil)
I thought it was so wrong to have tartar for a Chinese cuisine. This was slightly “meaty” but you can indulge the taste of the salmon with hints of olive oil.
Fish maw, cabbage & ocean treasure bouillon
Fish maw, cabbage & ocean treasure bouillon
花膠菜胆海味汤
The menu definitely missed the word “scallop” for this. That was a huge Japanese scallop and hidden below were the fish maw, shark fins, dried scallop and cabbage. Mind you, the portion was huge and this was luscious. I enjoyed having this as the taste of soup was well balanced. If you are not a big fan of shark fins, you can request for a non-shark fins version without any charges but do let them know in advance so they can prepare it just for you.
Pan- seared wagyu beef with fresh mushroom, garlic black pepper jus
Roasted roulade of chicken, young carrot

Roasted roulade of chicken, young carrot
香煎黑椒嫩和牛
Pan- seared wagyu beef with fresh mushroom, garlic black pepper jus was next. The wagyu beef was delicious and went well with the fresh mushroom but I thought the garlic black pepper jus was slightly overwhelming. Chef Kok revealed that most Malaysian Chinese prefer black pepper jus so he created this for local palate. Regardless, I loved the wagyu beef.
Grilled cod fillet, wantan, mashed potato in saffron broth
Grilled cod fillet, wantan, mashed potato in saffron broth
薯泥云吞烤鱈鱼
The picture of this grilled cod fillet, wantan, mashed potato in saffron broth was used in many promotional items for MIGF 2012 as I was told. The portion for the grilled cod fillet was generous and it was heavenly. It went well with saffron broth but the mashed potato was a bit buttery for my liking. However, some might love that taste of it, as usual it was subjective. I did ask for a second plate for this if the kitchen had a spare though. The fish was cooked to perfection.
Japanese somen, ginseng wine, jumbo prawns & scallop in clear essence
Japanese somen, ginseng wine, jumbo prawns & scallop in clear essence
人參酒香海鮮麵
Japanese somen, ginseng wine, jumbo prawns & scallop in clear essence. There is a reason this menu is highly recommended as this is the second dish with scallops. While the Japanese scallop wowed me just now, this Canadian scallop didn’t disappoint me either. It was clear that chef was toning down the menu with simple and yet savoury Japanese somen with ginseng wine in clear essence. The Japanese somen was a beauty and complimented with a huge jumbo prawn with two scallops. To be frank there was only hint of the ginseng wine so it didn’t spoil the subtle taste of the soup.
Chilled water chestnut jelly, strawberry-red bean ice cream
Chilled water chestnut jelly, strawberry-red bean ice cream
Lastly, we had the Chilled water chestnut jelly, strawberry-red bean ice cream. Another huge portion of chilled water chestnut jelly and interestingly paired with strawberry-red bean ice cream. It was a great dish to end the MIGF 2012 Chinese menu.
Overall, Dynasty Restaurant gave me a very good impression on their MIGF 2012 menu. There were a few favourites on my list and that includes Abalone with chilled spicy vermicelli salad, Fish maw, cabbage & ocean treasure bouillon, Grilled cod fillet, wantan, mashed potato in saffron broth and Japanese somen, ginseng wine, jumbo prawns & scallop in clear essence.
I agreed with Chef Kok that the portion can easily fits for two persons. The Dynasty Restaurant MIGF 2012 Menu at Renaissance Hotel is highly recommended, the portion is generous, the price is reasonable and the food was good.

they always serve small portions in exclusive hotels and restaurants kan? hehe
But it is mentioned above that they all thought that the portion can easily fits two person.
Hi Cyong,
Yes, the portion is comfortable for two. You read it correct. I hope you are going to try out their menu and let us know what you think.

Hi Jardness,
Usually that is the case but Dynasty portion is comfortable for two. That’s why I highly recommended them.
