Mak Mun Kee Noodles (麥文記麵家)
Mak Mun Kee Noodles (麥文記麵家), Parkes Street, Hong Kong
If you are planning to indulge one of the best wonton noodles, you should visit Mak Mun Kee Noodles (麥文記麵家) at Parkes Street, Jordan, Hong Kong. It is located beside the ever popular Australia Dairy Company.
The shop starts at noon and we were a few minutes early. For the first time traveling to Hong Kong, this recent trip is greeted with the warmth of the politeness and gracefulness of Hong Kong people. It took me by surprise actually.
The waiters greeted us and asked us to be seated before they start selling their noodle at noon sharp. I noticed most of the waiters have worked with this restaurant for decades.
We ordered a variety of noodles, wonton noodles, dry noodles with roast pork, dry noodles with beef brisket and a bowl of tiger prawns wonton. They have menu in English, just ask them politely.
The wonton noodles came in a cute bowl of noodles with four exceptionally huge tiger prawn wontons. The highlight is not the noodle but the wontons. Mak Mun Kee knows its stuff and the wonton has the freshest tiger prawn meat ever and not neglecting its taste. It really raised the bar for high quality wonton and I couldn’t remember any that match this.
The dry noodle with beef brisket was equally good. Firstly, the beef brisket was not overcooked, you can tell from the slight pinkish colour of the meat. The broth was not too thick and the taste was good enough, not overpowering.
Dry noodle with roast pork was not up to the mark though. The scent of the ammonia was still there so it was quite a turn off. The roast pork was tender and delicious, a different type than the Malaysia’s version of dark chargrilled version.
The waiters there were friendly or was it our lucky day? We had a good conversation with them and I enjoyed their services with a smile. Within minutes after their opening, the restaurant was overcrowded with patrons. The wonton noodle priced from HKD 28 and above. If you want some kickass wontons, you don’t really want to miss Mak Mun Kee Noodles at Parkes Street in Jordan. Next tip, move over to Australia Dairy Company with their awesome milk tea, toast and sandwiches!
