Traveling with Handy Hong Kong
Traveling with Handy Hong Kong
For many reasons, I love to travel to Hong Kong. The food scene, the attractions and their unique culture (some might argue about this). It is a package of adventures in this adrenaline rush city.
On my latest holiday to Hong Kong, I was given the opportunity to test out one of their latest gadgets, the Handy Hong Kong. If you are having the headache on searching the best local food or restaurants or venturing to new attractions, Handy Hong Kong (handy) is the best solution for you.
Hands on experience: Handy Hong Kong
With handy, lugging around cumbersome guidebooks quickly becomes a thing of the past. Our preloaded mobile city guide comes jam-packed with informative content written by a team of local experts who wish to enlighten you on the city’s countless treasures. With over 200 tourist suggestions, and weekly feature articles highlighting everything from upcoming shows to flourishing nightlife areas, handy provides users with the most up-to-date information and the latest happenings in Hong Kong.
Handy comes preloaded with a collection of applications that will enhance your travel experience in Hong Kong. These include maps, digital publications, award-winning games, and a host of other entertainment options.
They have chosen a great range of apps that will suit any traveler; like Skype, which lets you chat face-to-face with friends, family, and colleagues back home; or Facebook, which ensures you keep up-to-date with the latest in social media. The Kayak app gives you ideas on the best places to stay; while the BBC News app keeps you informed on the latest news breaking around the world.
If there happens to be an app that we haven’t included, you can always download it directly from the Google Play store – straight to the handy device.
Never pay for expensive mobile roaming charges again. With handy’s 3G internet access and unlimited local and international calls, there’s really no excuse for not staying in touch.
Finding Wi-Fi in an unfamiliar city like Hong Kong can be a hassle. Since we include unlimited 3G internet access in your handy rental fee, it will be like you never left home. Browse the web, check your emails, and stream music and videos on the fly. It’s that easy. There are 14 countries that are listed with handy with UNLIMITED FREE CALLS, they are USA, Singapore, Japan, Spain, India, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, France, Netherlands, Canada and UK. They are working hard to bring MALAYSIA to the bandwagon as I was told. Calling local Hong Kong numbers are FREE!
If you travel with your laptop, you can even connect it to the internet by using handy as your own personal Wi-Fi hotspot. That’s what I did! Each handy comes with one extra battery and charger. The charger can charge two batteries at once. Hence, I have a personal external charger so converting handy to personal Wi-Fi hotspot is more viable. In total, four of us were using handy (Samsung Note) as Wi-Fi hotspot and two batteries are good enough for a day.
Where to pick up Handy Hong Kong?
Their service counters are conveniently located in the Arrivals Hall at Hong Kong International Airport. Simply pick up your handy and you are ready to rock! I got mine when at Arrival Hall counter A. The registration process and the short brief on handy took less than 15 minutes (that includes how to turn handy to a personal WI-FI hotspot).

How much is to rent Handy Hong Kong?
HKD 68 per day and with handy there are no hidden fees, and no additional charges. Reducing the cost of rental is just one of the ways we hope to reduce the burden that accompanies traveling. The fee includes everything including the FREE local and International Calls (USA, Singapore, Japan, Spain, India, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, France, Netherlands, Canada and UK)! HKD 68 per day is a steal!
My experience with Handy Hong Kong
I rent Handy for three days and you need to verify your credit card for to loan the phone unit (choice of Samsung Nexus or Samsung Note) which I chose the latter. There are discount codes for selection attractions in Hong Kong namely Madame Trussauds and more.
Recommendation by Handy Hong Kong in Lamma Island, how easy.
The food and restaurant selections are still limited and I was told they are working their hats off to bring in a better list. However, you can always use the Internet for alternative.

The GPS function is really useful when we got lost. It also allows us to track the nearest food/restaurant s, shopping and attractions.
Most of the time, I used it as WIFI-Hot Spot and calling my friends in Hong Kong (since it’s FREE anyways). I updated my status and connect to social media networks such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook using my Samsung Galaxy Camera linking Handy as hotspot. For that my followers on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook page followed my experience and adventure in Hong Kong.
We dined in Rainbow Restaurant as recommended by Handy Hong Kong.
The return of Handy back to the outlet was easy and it took me less than 5 minutes to get it done. It was really a good experience with Handy and how my friends save money using it as WI-FI hotspot. They are still relatively new as they established themselves since July last year. Visit HandyHongKong for more info and they are now in Singapore too at HandySingapore.
This is genius! Hopefully they will have this on more destinations. Will be going to Singapore soon so I can try it out then.
