Eureka Skydeck 88 Melbourne
Eureka Skydeck 88 Melbourne
I’m sure most people who visited Melbourne would miss this. The Eureka Skydeck 88 is located Located on Riverside Quay, the southern banks of the Yarra river. Like most observatory decks, Eureka is perfectly positioned for 360 degree views. The breath taking view includes Melbourne’s CBD, sports precinct, Port Phillip Bay, Docklands and everything in between.
The Eureka Tower.
I have been to some of the observatory decks in the world. My humble list includes Rockefeller New York, Macao Tower, Singapore SkyPark, sky100 Hong Kong and Eureka Skydeck 88.
If you are wondering what the 88 means, it is actually where the skydeck is located, on the 88th floor. Two lifts exclusively service Eureka Skydeck 88 and they claimed that they are the fastest lifts in the Southern Hemisphere, they travel at over 9 metres per second. It takes just 38 seconds to travel from the ground to the 88th floor. That is really fast.
The difference between Eureka Skydeck 88 and the rest is the interior is dimmer than others. This is because the windows are partially laminated with a layer of gold. Sadly I didn’t have a clear shot of the building with the gold laminated glass panels.
If you love to take landscape pictures, you can spend hours here taking your perfect angle and composition.
On top of the 360 degree views, Eureka Skydeck has something additional to offer, the Edge. For an extra charge, you get to enter a glass cubicle to will extend out 3 metres and you have a clear view of 300 meters below the transparent glass floor. Despite of the hypes, it didn’t really wow-ed me.
The opening hour is from 10 am to 10 pm and the admission fees are as below (price is in Australian dollars inclusive of GST):
Adult Skydeck: $18.50
Concession Skydeck (Student/Pensioner/Seniors):$14.00
Child Skydeck (4-16yrs): $10.00
Family Skydeck (2 Adults + 2 Children): $42.00
Family Skydeck (2 Adults + 1 Child): $42.00
Family Skydeck (1 Adults + 2 Children): $31.00
Extra Child – Skydeck: $8.00
I’m not an observatory deck freak but it is the best way to view the city. If you are traveling to Melbourne, just make a stop at Eureka Skydeck 88. The view is memorable.

awesome view! i have a slight fear of heights, so i might not stand too close to the windows, but i think i’d still have fun taking photographs 😀
