Pier One Restaurant and Bar, Wrest Point Hobart
Pier One Restaurant and Bar, Wrest Point Hobart
This was one of the best dinners I had in Tassie (Tasmania). Pier One Restaurant and Bar is located within Wrest Point hotel, one of the iconic hotels in Hobart.
Australia’s first casino, Wrest Point overlooks Hobart’s harbour and is a popular waterside venue for entertainment and dining. Refurbished rooms and suites are styled with natural timber; the gaming rooms break with tradition and feature windows with river views; and other facilities include the tower-top The Point Restaurant, dining in Pier One overlooking the Derwent River; a range of casual bistros and bars; evening entertainment; a heated pool and spas
It was a formal dinner where guests include media reps from Hong Kong and China as well as VIP from Federal Group and Tourism Tasmania. It was a lively dinner with lots of interactions as guests were served with three course meal.
Entrée
Slow Roasted Pork Belly
Slow Roasted Pork Belly with sweet braised fennel, carrot and cardamom puree and apple sauce. I expected an Asian version of this but it was not. The skin was removed and deep fried to crispiness while the slow roasted pork belly was cooked to tenderness. The puree was sweet while apple sauce was sour and it complimented well with the pork. What a great way to start a dinner with this!
Chilli Salted Squid
Chilli Salted Squid with house made chili sauce and coriander salad. In short, this is a deep calamari with a chili sauce and it was delectable.
Main Course:
Marinated Lamb Rump
Marinated Lamb Rump with potato, pea, bacon and iceberg ragout. I might be a big fan of lamb rump until this. Credits to the chef as the lamb rump was cooked to perfection and I thought the sauce balanced with the lamb. Look at the colour at the center of the rump, it was still pinkish red and I wished for another plate for this.
Crispy Skin Salmon
Crispy Skin Salmon with red curry sauce with roasted corn salsa and coconut lime leaf pilaff. It is not easy to cook a piece of salmon as I have seen many restaurants tend to overcook it. This was a unique combination with the coconut lime leaf pilaff.
Huon Valley Mushroom Tagliatelle
Huon Valley Mushroom Tagliatelle with garlic and thyme, white wine and parmesan crisp. If you are a pasta lover, you are game for this. The taste was as good as it looks.
Dessert
Mango Pannacotta
Mango Pannacotta with pistachio praline biscuit, cardamom ice cream. Interesting combination especially with cardamom ice cream. I loved the presentation.
White Chocolate Tart
White Chocolate Tart topped with white chocolate mousse and blackberry soup. Simple and yet scrumptious.
Golden Syrup Honeycomb Parfait
Golden Syrup Honeycomb Parfait served with biscotti. This is not your usual parfait.
It was a beautifully presentable dinner to say the least and the food was impressive. It was definitely one of the highlights of my Tasmanian adventure. If you are want a special place for a special occasion, you can consider Pier One Restaurant and Bar at Wrest Point and prepare to get spoilt by the food.
