Seng Thor Greasy Oh Chien (Oyster Omelette)
Seng Thor Greasy Oh Chien (Oyster Omelette)
Oh chien is a Chinese Hokkien word for oyster omelette. On our quest to find the best street food in Penang, we found a unique place for oh chien. It is at Kopi Kedai Seng Thor located at 160, Lebuh Carnarvon (Kimberley) in Georgetown Penang.
Oyster omelette might not as popular as other street foods (such as assam laksa or char kway teow) but it is still a darling to many locals. I’ve tasted the Taiwan’s version of oyster omelette in Taiperbut it is no where close to the ones we are having in Penang or in Singapore.
The Seng Thor’s version of oyster omelette was a greasy one. I have never encounter such a greasy oh chien in my life. While recording the cooking of the oh chien, even standing a few feet away from his big wok did not spare me of getting my face and camera getting “oiled up”. Cleaning up my greasy lens was not fun.
This is one of its kind, even though the oh chien is greasy, they were generous with the oysters and the omelette was deep fried to light brownish colour.
The taste was not that bad but it was just too greasy. If you don’t mind the oil, you can still give this a try, this oh chien is above average. A plate of oh chien starts from RM 10 per plate.

Okay…it does look oily… But the generous amount of big oysters is a plus point. Looks very Melaka style.
