Gardens By The Bay – Cloud Forest
Gardens By The Bay – Cloud Forest
If you are a Science Fiction fans for movies like Star Trek and Star Wars, you will up for this. Have you ever wonder how the garden in the future looks like? Wonder no more as you can experience it in Singapore, the Gardens By The Bay at Marina Bay.
It is an eye opener for the first timer like me and it spans over 101 hectares and this award winning horticultural attraction houses over 250 thousand rare plants and it is just a stone throw away from Marina Bay Sands.
Inside the Gardens By the Bay lies two massive domes; the Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome. Let’s start with the Cloud Forest.
At first I find the name Cloud Forest quite intimidating or maybe just a gimmick to attract visitors. However, they prove me wrong.
As you entered the dome, the temperature around you immediately dropped at least 5-10 degree Celsius. Trust me, you don’t really want to leave the dome at the end of the day.
How to impress your visitors? Cloud Forest did the magnificently by placing on of the most beautiful manmade waterfalls in the world. The multi-tier man made waterfall is one of the most impactful sceneries you can get in the world. The fall is at least six to seven storeys high (35 metre tall) and you can stand in front of the falls and enjoy the mist for some time.
To start your tour, take the lift to the top level and slowly walk down. To enhance your visit, you can follow their audio tour (please check at the information counter for timing and rates).
At the top level, there is a mini garden and you can have the best view of the Marina Bay Sands. On the top is a mini lake with many exotic flowers and plants.
The view from the top is magnificent. The architecture is a real beauty.
The reason it is called the Cloud Forest because it is cold and misty especially near the top of the dome. The mist effect is created by using water emitting through the small holes in water lines near the pathway.
The end result is a misty condition similar within the condition within the clouds. Thanks to my hot air experience in Yarra Valley, I had the chance to experience the cloud effect and it is indeed similar.
Don’t you just love the view?
Be impressed, very impressed!
However, if you are acrophobia (height phobia) you should consider of going to the top level and you might need to stick it at the bottom level.
That’s not about it, there is also a science centre within the building. You can learn many things on the weather, climate and atmosphere.
There are a few things that I didn’t mention here to let you to explore. You can spend hours in Cloud Forest taking pictures and enjoying the breath taking view. Cloud Forest is a great place for family and the children can learn so many things. Immediately when you step out of the Cloud Forest, you can feel the change in temperature and its back to the real world. Cloud Forest is an eye opener and first of its kind.
I will blog on the Flowers Dome soon, please come back again.
