THE 1ST COFFEE & ART FRINGE FESTIVAL ASIA 2013 TO SHOWCASE THE BEST OF COFFEE, MUSIC, ARTS AND CULTURE.
Racing Creatures Sdn Bhd together with NESCAFÉ today launched the very 1st Coffee and Art Fringe Festival Asia (CAFFA) to be held on the 28th and 29th September in conjunction with International Coffee Day at PUBLIKA. This family oriented consumer and trade event celebrates the wonderful coffee lifestyle with music, arts and culture. CAFFA will be a platform for those in the industry to mingle and network with each other – owners of coffee shops, experts of the coffee industry and baristas, along with interested locals who wanted to learn a little more about coffee. Apart from it being a platform for coffee appreciation, education and a wealth of coffee drinking opportunities, the festival will also be in part a celebration of art in its many forms.
As expected at the 1st Coffee & Art Fringe Festival, there was plenty of coffee to be sampled, art to see and music to sooth the soul. Wit aromatic smell of coffee wafting around the ballroom, the morning session saw media and guests enjoying the array of coffee on hand with showcases from CAFFA sponsors NESCAFE, Dankoff Coffee Specialist, Coffex Coffee, Eciatto, Degayo, Soyfresh and Barista Guild Asia. Additionally, Azeem Juxta of Juxta Art and Slizzy of The Secret Hideout Street Art presented some amazing art that we could expect to see at CAFFA on the day; followed by some deep indie sounds from the band Juxtaposed.
Amongst the notable showcases, market leader Nescafe presented a showcase of their home coffee machines from Dolce Gusto and Milano line whilst Coffex Coffee brewed their Superbar range using the sleek Speedster machine. Meanwhile, green bean importer and exporter Degayo gave a quick education on coffee farming and brewing; Eciatto displayed an array of Hario products and brewing methods using Musetti Coffee; and coffee roaster Lim Yi Perng demonstrated the art of roasting whilst Malaysia Barista Champion 2013, Jason Loo pulled some amazing shots and latte art.
Mr Khoo Kar Khoon, Communications and PR Director of Nestle were amongst some of the notable speakers on the day.
Ms Karen Khoo, the organising director of this inaugural event explains that, “By merging the art of coffee and the arts, we at Racing Creatures together with our title sponsor Nescafe, hopes that CAFFA will be a platform for coffee appreciation, education and a wealth of coffee drinking opportunities as well as be a celebration of the arts in its many forms – be it via music, theatre or visual. Very generally speaking, we would like to embody the soul of a fringe festival. Fringe Festivals are focused on the performing arts: Theatre, dance, puppetry, spoken word and the like make up the Fringe core, but often may include film and visual arts elements. Fringes don’t have a focus on a single discipline or genre, but are a performing-arts smorgasbord. Furthermore there are no limits on content or title; no censorship is applied in the hopes of spurring creativity”
