Famous Durian Ice Cream at Mok Yi Kei, Rua do Cunha
If you staying in Taipa Island or Cotai Strip, make your way to Rua do Cunha. Rua do Cunha is located on Taipa Island there is another option for you to go instead of Macau Island. There are many good food available in Rua do Cunha. One of them is the famous durian ice cream at Mok Yi Kei.
Rua do Cunha is beautiful place with colourful shops and restaurants. Mok Yi Kei is located at 9, Rua do Cunha. They open from 7 am till 11 pm daily (what a long working hours).
Coming from the durian producing country, I lowered my expectation of this durian ice cream. Back in Malaysia, we are spoilt by durians like Musang King, Red Prawn and bla bla bla and I’m sure that in Macau they have limited resources on durians and they will heavily rely on frozen durian flesh.
The durian ice cream is cost at HKD 25. It is slightly expensive but if you have the cravings for durian, that kind of money is nothing.
So how does the taste like? If you are a hardcore durian lover, you might be critical with the taste. If you are first timer, you might either love or hate this. The ice cream is not as soft as I prefer but the durian taste is there. I don’t expect to get Musang King’s taste in Macau but it is pretty decent. You don’t get the scent of durian but you get the taste within the ice cream.
For a few fellow Malaysians who travelled with me this trip, they didn’t impress with this ice cream. However, to have durian ice cream in Macau, I have no complaints.
For first timers who never tasted durians before, this is a like a small test to understand yourself either to love or to hate durians. Like or hate it, it is subjective but I don’t mind having it. I will list down other food outlets in Rua Do Cunha soon!
