Red Bean Bun at Pastelaria Ng Teng Kei
Red Bean Bun at Pastelaria Ng Teng Kei
We heard so much about Portuguese egg tarts, pork chop bun and steamed milk pudding in Macau but there are more than that. In my recent trip to Macau, I explore into the alleys and roads for more local food.
At Rua de Joao Lecaros, Sao Lourenco is the Pastelaria Ng Teng Kei. It is a small shop selling homemade pastries and buns but their specialty is the red bean bun and located opposite Complexo Municipal do Mercado de S. Lourenço. Complexo Municipal do Mercado de S. Lourenço is a community complex with wet market, food court and community offices.
You can immediately spot the red bean buns and they are still making the buns in the shop. There is a huge bowl of red bean paste and they were making the dough to deep fry the bun in the wok of hot oil.
The red bean bun is priced at MOP/HKD 7 per piece. It is deep fried to crispiness and it is similar to Malaysian version of deep fried red bean bun. Their version is slightly thicker, greaser but still addictive. I double checked the address and it might not be correct so please ask around if you are near the Complexo Municipal do Mercado de S. Lourenço.
