Samsung Innovation Museum Experience in Suwon
Samsung Innovation Museum Experience in Suwon
To mark the 45th anniversary of Samsung Electronics, they opened Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon, a city near Seoul in South Korea. This museum opened in April 2014 and it is one of the most innovative museums I have visited so far.
(Lobby of Samsung Innovation Museum)
Unlike the conventional museum, in Samsung Innovation Museum you will be given a walking tour, video presentation, interactive sessions as well as hands on the latest Samsung products. The museum offers 150 inventions and products from Samsung and also other products of its competitors.
There are three main exhibition halls; the Age of Inventors, the Age of Industry Innovation and the Age of Creation. The Age of Inventors exhibition displays some of the original models and inventions of famous creators like Thomas Edison, Graham Bell and Michael Faraday.
(World’s First Battery, this is the real piece!)
According to the guide, it took the company some time to purchase original models from museums and collectors so every single piece (unless stated) are original authentic models.
(Edison’s early inventions, all of this are original models/lamps!)
These are real antiques and I never see them before and learnt so much about the inventors.
(World’s first washing machine)
The Age of Industry Innovation displays Samsung products and also products produce by others. I think they did it in a very classy manner. From the first radio to the first TV, from the first commercial phone to Samsung latest smart phone, this exhibition hall explains it all.
Thus, in this hall sits the most expensive exhibit, the wireless morse code transmitter or wireless telegraph, a rare machine to acquire. Looking at some of the old models of the mobile phones reminds me of my younger days and also how Samsung smart phone has progress and builds its brand and product up to now.
Samsung’s first mobile phone launched in 1988 for the Seoul Summer Olympics. I am sure we are unaware of that.
(Samsung of the TVs from the past)
Lastly, it the Age of Creation exhibition hall displays Samsung latest innovations in healthcare, hospitality and education. You can also experience the Samsung’s Smart Home and how its products interact with each other. This reminds me of the old movie “Tron” in 1980s which its home is smart controlled by a computer. You can find most of Samsung latest consumer products here and the best part is you can play with it.
You get to learn a lot of the history and the innovations of Samsung Electronics. Samsung is not just about mobile phones and you will learn more about their mission and their future in this museum.
The tour takes around an hour but do remember to book your guided tour in advance on their website at http://www.samsunginnovationmuseum.com/
