Hon Kee Petaling Street Famous Porridge
Hon Kee Petaling Street Famous Porridge
Hon Kee porridge at Petaling Street (Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown) has a history of 60 years and now running by their third generation. They are one of the most popular food in Petaling Street and I have not been there for some time.
They have many good reviews from local media, bloggers, TV shows and even Hong Kong food critic Choy Lam. The shop is remains the same located at the footway of the Petaling Street.
There are prominent banners at the entrance so it is hard for anyone to miss the shop. When you go in, you can spot the old name sign with year 1949.
I am unsure how much a bowl of porridge cost but it is RM 5 per bowl now. I ordered two bowls of porridge, the pork innards porridge and the pork balls porridge.
Their porridge is popular due to its smooth texture but this time around, I find something amiss. The porridge is cooked to perfection but the taste is quite bland. I remembered the last time I went there, I was slightly salty but this time around it is just too bland. Even adding spoons of soy sauce didn’t help it.
However, the pork innards remains tasty especially the crunchy pork intestines. The pork balls aren’t too bad too.
Maybe the chef is on leave that day or its just my pure bad luck, the porridge didn’t taste as good as it used to be. Regardless, it is still very popular and packed with customers.
I am not sure the other branches of Hon Kee Porridge outlets are the same with this one as the banner states beware of imitation. However, I do remember the Bandar Puteri outlet food tastes better.
