Hung Kee is a very popular old name for wantan mee in Kuala Lumpur. Based in Jalan Loke Yew, they have been around in decades and many years ago they sold to new owners due to retirement. The new owners then opened a new branch in Taman Shamelin and continue their legacy.

I was told that Hung Kee increased their food prices recently after GST and apparently the news appeared on Chinese dailies too. As their loyal customer for years, they have been maintaining their food prices for years until recently.

The owner told me once that he tried to maintain the food prices but now I guess with the increasing food cost and operating cost, he left no choice to increase the food prices.

I went back a few days ago to my favourite outlet in Taman Shamelin. Some of the staffs still recognized me as I have not been there for months.

I ordered the medium size Char Siew and Siew Yoke Wantan Mee. The plate of wantan mee comes with generous amount of char siew (caramelized BBQ pork) and siew yoke (roasted pork belly) and the taste remains good. I know they use three different types of oil to mix it with their wantan noodle. Their char siew and siew yoke never disappoints me.

The price comes to RM 11.50 and it was a shocking to me too. This is after their recent food price hike and I took a picture of the price list too.

Well, I have no complains paying that amount of money for good and quality food. For the food prices, you have to judge by yourselves as many overrated restaurants in shopping malls are charging more than this.
