Best way to travel around Khao Lak
You might not heard of the name Khao Lak but it is time to learn this name as it is one of the hidden gems of Thailand. Khai Lak is coastal town in the province of Phang Nga. Most people recognized Phang Nga with James Bond Island but there are plenty more than that. Khao Lak is a quiet beach getaway destination unknown to Asians but popular with locals as well as Europeans and Australians. If you want a quiet beach getaway, Khao Lak is the answer.
The best way to travel to Khao Lak is to fly to Phuket International Airport and rent a car to drive to Khao Lak. From the airport it takes around 90 minutes of casual drive.
The roads are easy to drive and the road signs are everywhere. You can always get a FREE sim card in the airport and use Waze or Google Map to reach Khao Lak.
If you remember the tsunami, Khao Lak is the worst hit area in Thailand. However, the area is rebuilt into a beach destination. You can find normal hotels to high end resorts and one of the most unique and popular hi-so (high society) resort in Khao Lak is Casa De La Flora.
Getting a tuk tuk in Khao Lak is a big challenge so renting a car is the wiser decision.
Which is the better car rental?
For me, I always use Thai Rent A Car. They are Thai wholly owned car rental company with a fleet of over thousands of cars with outlets all around Thailand. They are a reputable rental company and what I like about them is their reasonable rates and their professional services.
Remember to bring your driving license and passport along. Driving in Phuket and Khao Lak is easy, fun and safe.
I had fun driving around Khao Lak with my brother and my Thai friends. I rented a Toyota Yaris but it is big enough for four people.
