Ratchaprasong Skywalk Light Tunnel: Kingdom of Light Festival 2
Ratchaprasong Skywalk Light Tunnel: Kingdom of Light Festival 2
On my recent trip to Thailand, I visited Chiang Rai and Bangkok. In Chiang Rai, I went to Singha Park to check out their social enterprise project. Thus, my trip to Bangkok is purely leisure and I was checking out the beer gardens in Central World, meeting up my friends and looking for new stories for our blog.
The beer gardens in Central World are an annual affair and it happens in the month of December every year. I never been to the beer gardens before and that’s why I met up with my friends in Central World’s Singha Beer Garden (the best in among the rest).
The unique thing about Bangkok is they kept on surprising you. As I was walking from BTS Skytrain Chit Lom Station to Central World, I stumbled upon a tunnel of light in Ratchaprasong. Ratchaprasong is the intersection of Phloen Chit, Rama I and Ratchadamri Roads (includes the famous Erawan Shrine).
It is similar to the tunnel of lights in Japan but this is better. The colours constantly changing and the effect of the colours make everyone stop and start snapping with their smartphone or camera.
One of my friends said the lights are like Star Wars Jedi lightsaber. It is true and it does look like hundreds of lightsabers in the tunnel. Hence, when the colour changes to rainbow like colours, you feel like you are standing under the shiny rainbow.
Please take note this is the BTS Skywalk and it is a public area so this is free. Everyone can come here and take photos. You can come here at night for pictures like many others do.
This whole tunnel of lights is called the Kingdom of Light Festival and this is the second edition. The whole festival is collaboration with the team behind Amsterdam Light Festival and Thailand’s Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). The event started on December 5, 2015 until January 6, 2016.
This is a very creative project so tourists and locals can enjoy the festive season with the beautiful tunnel of light. Thus, many will take photos and post it on their social media and that’s why places of interest in Bangkok always in Top 10 Most Instagram Places in The World.
