Khao Soi Samer Jai Chiang Mai Review
Khao Soi Samer Jai Chiang Mai Review
What to eat in Chiang Mai? Well, there is one special noodle available at this part of Thailand and it is called Khao Soi. It is totally different than other noodles you tasted in other parts of Thailand but Khao Sai is similar to Burmese “ohn no khao swe”.
This restaurant, Khao Soi Samer Jai is a popular restaurant for its Khao Soi. You can find many positive reviews from local food websites as well as food bloggers. Thus, there are also other stalls selling other food such as papaya salad and pork satay.
The restaurant is located at Moo 2, Tambon Fa Ham, 5 Thanon Charoenrajd, Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai. It is a coffee shop style restaurant and it is often packed from time to time as we were told.
What is Khao Soi?
It is a noodle soup dish. The dish is a mixture of crispy deep fried egg noodles and noodles (thin kuey teow) with curry (contains coconut milk). It is lighter version of Malaysian or Singaporean curry noodle but this comes with pickled mustard greens, shallots, lime with chicken, beef or prawn.
We have been to a few places in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and so far there is no pork version of Khao Soi. Thus, you can find Muslims having Khao Soi as it is pork free in most restaurants.
How is the taste?
This is the light curry noodle and you get the crunchy texture of the fried egg noodles and soft texture of the other noodles. Thus, it comes with bite size of chicken or beef or prawn. Some might order two bowls of Khao Soi as it is tasty and delightful.
Pork Satay
This is one of their specialities in Khao Soi Samer Jai. It is similar to Malaysia’s version of pork satay. The meat is marinated with turmeric and slightly on the sweet side and compliments with nutty satay sauce. The pork satay is nothing spectacular but good comfort food.
Khao Soi Samer Jai Chiang Mai is definitely worth to visit for just for their khao soi noodles. Remember to order the sweet Thai milk tea (Cha Yen) too.
