Otaku Heaven at First Avenue Tokyo Station
Otaku Heaven at First Avenue Tokyo Station
We heard so much about Akihabara as the ‘otaku heaven’ in Tokyo. However, we found another small hidden gem in the city. It is the First Avenue in Tokyo Station and it is so convenient you don’t even need to leave the station. Otaku simply means people who are obsessed with anime or manga or both.
To be fair, we went there late last year but sharing is caring. We just want to share some of our experiences so it useful for everyone. It is one of the highlights of our sponsored trip to Akita Japan.
The Fist Avenue Tokyo Station is outside of the Yaesu Underground Central Exit and Yaesu exits of Tokyo Station. We were there for a pit stop from Narita International Airport to Akita.
We spent almost an hour venturing here (and it is not enough). You can spend probably at least a few hours as they are not just about ‘otaku’ but also fashion, general merchandise stores and restaurants.
What we love about First Avenue Tokyo Station is its ideal location. You literally don’t need to walk out of the station and you can shop here even if it is rain or shine because its indoor. Everything is centralised at one place so you don’t need to walk far and the whole area is fully air conditioned.
We bought some of the Rilakkuma limited merchandise for our cousin and also some other anime merchandise for ourselves and our boys.
The otaku section offers around 20 themed stores featuring popular characters from Weekly Shonen Jump, the boy’s magazine, including One Piece and Dragon Ball. Other stores also feature merchandise based on characters known around the world, including Ultraman, Snoopy, and Rilakkuma.
