Penang Big Bowl Ramen Noodle at Chew Jetty
Penang Big Bowl Ramen Noodle at Chew Jetty
If you are traveling to Penang and looking for something different than the usual Char Kuey Teow, Assam Laksa or Penang Rojak, maybe you can try the Penang Big Bowl noodle. We got to know this place thanks to the new friends we made when we were cruising on Star Cruises Superstar Libra with Hwajing Travel and Tours. The restaurant is called Big Bowl Noodle at the touristy area of Chew Jetty.
It is quite easy to find the restaurant. It is house converted restaurant and when you walk in to the Chew Jetty, it will be on the right facing the sea.
You can find many tourists here than locals. Most of the tourists are here for the Chew Jetty and check out the restaurant in process.
Since we were there on weekdays, it wasn’t packed. What we liked about this place is the people here is not pushy on what we ordered. For example, we ordered big bowl for three pax sharing for five people and they didn’t insist us to order more. Instead, they told us to eat first and order more later if not enough. This is the right type of attitude that we like rather than pushing us to order for more.
They recommended the Braised Pork Belly noodle for three pax. Here is the thing, no matter how big the portion you order, the bowl is still that huge. The difference is how much noodles they cook depending the portion you order.
As usual, we relentless snapping pictures and videos of the big bowl noodle. Everyone in the restaurant is doing the same thing.
When it comes to all this ‘hype’ food, we always lowered our expectation. For us, sometimes all this big bowl noodle is just pure gimmick. However, the ramen noodle is surprising good. The texture is al dente and it is really good. The braised pork also another big surprise as it is soft in texture and the taste is really good. The braised pork is quite similar to ‘kau yuk’ and we really loved it. The broth on the other hand is slightly salty in our opinion but overall it is good. We are honest about this and this big bowl noodle is really taste good overall and worth the visit.
The Braised Pork Big Bowl Noodle for 3 pax is RM 55.90. Is it slightly expensive but it is okay since it is located in prime tourist attraction. For the taste, we enjoyed it and we don’t mind coming back again. The braised pork is pretty good.
