Muar Famous Oh Chien Oyster Omelette
Muar Famous Oh Chien Oyster Omelette
We recently revisited the Muar famous Oh Chien or oyster omelette after we blogged about it in 2013. We went to the stall a fortnight ago but it was closed. Due to old age, the seller will open five days a week and they will close their stall around 3pm. They usually open for weekends as there are customers.
Even on normal weekdays, there is queue and you can wait up to 30 mins. During their heyday, you have to wait up to more than one hour.
The stall is located along Jalan Haji Muar or more popular known as Muar’s glutton street or ‘wai sek kai’. They are directly opposite Restoran Yong Kee which is popular for the pork satay, wantan mee and otak otak stalls.
The Oh Chien is priced at RM 8, RM 12 and RM 15 now. There is no price increment for the past few years except for the medium size from RM 10 to RM 12 per packet.
Their version of Oh Chien is different than the ones in Klang Valley. It is more starchy, soft in texture and fragrant with their own special sauces. It is similar to the famous Melaka Jalan Bunga Raya Oh Chien.
We waited for 15 minutes to get our plate of oh chien. The taste didn’t disappoint us and the owner gave us more oysters than usual as we were filming his cooking. He can recognised us as we visited their stall quite often.
We loved his version of oh chien and that’s the main reason we drove to Muar for it whenever we travel from Johor Bahru back to Kuala Lumpur. Since there are also other food available, we usually have a feast here with other food such as wantan mee and otak otak. Don’t miss this popular oh chien stall when you are in Muar. They are local favourites and they have been around for decades.
