OUG Famous Fried Nian Gao Kuih Bakul
OUG Famous Fried Nian Gao Kuih Bakul
For a food stall to run for over 30 years is not easy. This is the story of the Overseas Union Gardens (OUG) famous fried nian gao or kuih bakul stall in front of Restaurant Double Nine. The couple has been running the stall for 36 years and it is the favourites among the residents in the neighbourhood.
When we wanted to take the videos of their stall, the owner said he doesn’t want to be featured. The humble old couple from Penang chat with us in Hokkien and we talked about the other popular fried nian gao stalls in Brickfields and in Pudu (formerly Imbi).
They open daily (except Thursdays) from 11.30 am to 5.30 pm. Their food prices are very reasonable compare to other popular stalls. Their signature is their nian gao with sweet potato and yam slices. You can see the niao gao oozing out and yes, it is as good as it looks.
They also offer pisang goreng, fried sliced potato and cekodok, the mashed banana ball. Their cekodok is quite tasty with lesser flour used.
Their fried nian gao or kuih bakul is deep fried to crunchy outer layer and soft texture on the inner layer. You need to buy more than just a few pieces of their nian gao. We don’t mind getting more from them if we are eating in OUG in the future.
This is main reason why we are so blessed to be in Malaysia with all this yummy street food. How to diet?

11.30 am to 5.30 pm daily
