The Real Facts of Traffic Jam and Parking Issues in KL

Born and bred in Kuala Lumpur, we have experience and grew with the progress of this beautiful city. This city once was once a town of tin quarries and jungle has transformed itself to one of the busiest cities in Southeast Asia.

Like many other Asian countries, we prefer to have our cars to drive around. It is always easier and more convenient to have a car to drive around. You can see some families have more cars than the drivers and this trend is still ongoing up to today. With such habit, everyone owns more cars and it creates a massive traffic jam in Kuala Lumpur every day.

Thus, we had to spent hours in a car every day due to traffic jam in KL. Then, we spend time to find a car park not forgetting how expensive per hour you have to pay. There are also petrol cost and toll fees. Driving a car is not as good as it looks.

We drive around to visit restaurants for review for our blog. There are quite a number of places in KL that is quite notorious for not having parking spaces. Bangsar, Pudu, Mid Valley, Desa Sri Hartamas are the few names we can think of and of course there more out there.

Need a good fix of wantan mee but the traffic jam is bad and parking space is hard to come by.

Take a few examples from our personal experiences. Whenever we needed to do a food review in places like Desa Sri Hartamas, getting a parking space is like hitting a Jackpot. Same goes to our favourite wantan mee places in Cheras, it took us a while to find a parking space.

Same goes to some of the popular restaurants in Pudu, parking spaces are scarce as the shop lots were built ages ago without any future planning. The struggle is real guys, food hunting for our blog is never easy.

Do you know according to Uber Malaysia’s Research every KL car owner spends 152 hours a year looking for parking? I guess it is good to spend the time on something better, right?

Ever wonder how many cars we have in KL? Well Uber Malaysia did a research on this as well, imagine this. KL needs a space the size of 9 KLCCs to park all its cars. That is a lot of cars if you asked us.

By 2020, the peak congestion will be 4.5x worse. What if we can do something today to make it better?

Let us share some of our true experiences in wasting time in traffic jams. On certain days, we might have to attend a few meetings or events and due to the traffic congestion, we spent a whole day instead of just hours in getting from one place to another.

If there is a small accident or rain, the traffic jam will be unbearable. For those who are staying at the greater outer of KL, they need to wake up at 6pm to reach to their office early to avoid the traffic or else they might get stuck in the jam for hours. This wasted time could be your precious time with your friends and families.

Not forgetting owning a car means you have to pay monthly instalments, insurance, maintenance, petrol fees, tolls and miscellaneous.

Then, the car park. Some car parks in KL are charging really high prices. By parking in the city might costs hundreds of ringgit per month. Imagine you can save the money for your own personal use or shopping?

It is always cool to own car but to have it in the city it is not so cool after all. Maybe there is a better solution for traffic jam and parking spaces?

Sitting at the backseat of an Uber is stress free, don’t have to worry about traffic jams, parking, and I could use the time to do the things I need to do!

Well, there is something cool will be coming soon and it is #UnlockKL and remember to follow us on our Facebook Page and Instagram for it. Time for stress free in KL. #UnLockKL

  1. I agree with the public transport comment above. We have launched a platform call Flex Parking in New Zealand. that allows workplaces to share unused parking spaces securely with their employees, which could help the situation too. That way, people know they have a park at work so can drive, and those that don’t take public transport.
