Toriden KL: Mizutaki Japanese Chicken Hotpot
Toriden KL: Mizutaki Japanese Chicken Hotpot
We are learning more about Japanese cuisines. If you read our blogpost of Fukuda Sri Hartamas Motsunabe and Yakitori, we blogged about Motsunabe which is a type of Japanese hot pot originated from Fukuoka. At Toriden KL, we learn more about Mizutaki which is also a type of Japanese hotpot from Fukuoka.
Toriden is located on the top floor (4F) of Isetan Japan Store KL. You can find many quality and good Japanese Restaurant on this floor. You can easily spot Toriden when you take the escalator up from 3rd Floor.
The ambiance is very cozy and the interior of the restaurant is heavily influenced by the traditional Japanese design. You can either sit on the izakaya style or the tatami style seating.
Mizutaki is a chicken hotpot originated from Japan’s Hataka in Fukuoka Prefecture. This is their first outlet outside of Japan and serving pork free menu. The entire cuisine at Toriden KL is focus on chicken only.
What is the most important ingredient for a hotpot cuisine? The soup. At Toriden KL, to create 30kg of rich and flavourful stock for the soup base of the hotpot, they used 30kg of farm fresh chicken and boiled for eight hours. From what we were told there are ingredients like bonito and kelp to make the soup.
Most of the ingredients are the green and chicken. The soup is rich with natural taste and goodness of the chicken. They don’t use ‘processed’ chicken stock so the taste of the soup is as natural as it is.
Most of the Japanese food is healthy so the taste and flavour of their food is not as strong like our Malaysian food. What you get from Mizutaki is natural taste so it is not as flavourful as we thought.
Boiled it with the green and let the flavours of the vegetables add the flavour of the soup. Remember to dip the food with Ponzu sauce before you eat it.
If you are into eating healthy food, Mizutaki is something you should consider. There are not many places in Malaysia that offers Mizutaki.
Toriden KL is part of the Ho Chak! In Japan TV series. Gary and Orange went to Fukuoka and this is one of the dishes originated from there. This is part of Episode 6 of Ho Chak! In Japan.
One more thing we need to highlight is remember to hashtag #hochakinJapan whenever you have Japanese food where ever you are and stay a chance to win cool prizes from Fun Japan. The contest is for Malaysians only and you can hashtag #hochakinJapan on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and remember to set your pic or video to Public. There will be cool prizes to be won so good luck guys!
